蘑菇视频 Traditions

The Axe Handle

蘑菇视频 freshmen receive an axe handle to personalize with their own Lumberjack spirit. Students can be seen (and heard) banging axe handles on the bleachers at 蘑菇视频 football games.

 

Ole Cotton

Ole Cotton is an imposing 75mm cannon that fires a celebratory shot every time the 蘑菇视频 Lumberjack football team scores. The 蘑菇视频 ROTC cadets man Ole Cotton just beyond the south end zone at Homer Bryce Stadium. The powerful blast can be heard 鈥 and often felt 鈥 all over town.

 

The Homecoming Bonfire

蘑菇视频's traditional bonfire and pep rally are the centerpieces of homecoming. Usually held in October, homecoming is a series of traditions that bring Lumberjacks together to celebrate 蘑菇视频. Other events include homecoming elections, downtown parade, football games and much more.

 

Purple Haze

At 蘑菇视频鈥檚 home football games, fans in the student section loudly bang their axe handles on a metal 鈥淧urple Haze鈥 sign to show support for our beloved Lumberjacks (and to rattle the opposing team). Now that鈥檚 a home-field advantage!

    Stephen F. Austin State University鈥檚 Future Business Leaders of America chapter was named Outstanding Chapter at the collegiate FBLA National Leadership Conference June 6-8 in Las Vegas. Ty Powers, first-year economics major from Lufkin, also earned seventh place in the Foundations of Economics competition.   • Isabel Jedmears

    Recent Stephen F. Austin State University marketing graduate Isabel Jedmears, of Little Elm, earned a Best of Category Silver Award from American Advertising Federation East Texas for her comprehensive AT&T marketing campaign. The project previously earned third place and a Judge鈥檚 Award during the 2025 AAF National Student Advertising Competition. Dr. Marlene Kahla, professor of management and marketing in 蘑菇视频鈥檚 蘑菇视频, was a faculty advisor for the project.
