May 24, 2011
An Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Art Academy participant pauses to admire the mask she created during the two-week camp for area kindergartners through sixth graders. This summer's academy will meet in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Art Building from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, June 13 through 24.
"The academy offers an exciting introduction to the visual arts and an immersion into specific media," said Gary Parker, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ art instructor and director of the academy.
Classes are arranged by approximate age and meet from 9 a.m. to noon in the Art Building on Wilson Drive. The students' work will be exhibited at 6 p.m. Friday, June 24, in the Art Building. Afterwards, students may take their work home.
The $160 registration fee includes all art supplies, refreshments and exhibition expenses. Registration information is available at or by calling the School of Art at (936) 468-4804.
"We encourage parents to register their children early since enrollment is limited to ensure personal attention and instruction," Parker said.
