NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Wind Symphony of Stephen F. Austin State University will present a concert, "New Day Rising: The Music of Steven Reineke and Michael Gandolfi," at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus.
The centerpiece of the program will be Reineke's Symphony No. 1 "New Day Rising," a four-movement work about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, explained David W. Campo, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ associate director of bands and the Wind Symphony's director.
"We will also present Gandolfi's 'Vientos y Tangos' a powerful statement for winds that reflects the sensuous nature of Argentina's national dance," Campo said.
Jerry Gonzalez, Garland graduate student, will guest conduct Warren Benson's "A Solitary Dancer," a piece which deals with the quiet, poised energy that one may observe in a dancer in repose, alone with her inner music, explained Campo.
The concert is a joint presentation of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ College of Fine Arts and School of Music. Cole Concert Hall is located in the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building at 2210 Alumni Dr.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students. For tickets or more information, please visit or call (936) 468-6407 or (888) 240-ARTS.
