Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Wurtz to present faculty trumpet recital

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Gary Wurtz, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ associate professor of trumpet, will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

He will be performing works by Alexander Arutunian, Gabriel Fauré, G.F. Handel and Johann Neruda. Joining Wurtz on stage will be Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ music faculty members Jennifer Dalmas, violin; pianists Gene H. Moon and Ron Petti; Evgeni Raychev, cello; and Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ student Fahad Awan, violin.

A member of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ music faculty since 1992, Wurtz directs Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Swingin' Axes jazz band and Trumpet Ensemble and is also a member of the Pineywoods Brass Quintet. He has worked extensively as an orchestral musician, jazz musician, soloist and studio musician. He appears frequently as a soloist and clinician, both in the classical and jazz fields, at colleges, high schools and with professional organizations.

Wurtz earned a Bachelor of Music Education from West Texas A&M University and both his Master of Music Education and Doctor of Musical Arts in trumpet performance from the University of North Texas.
