Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Wind Ensemble presents 'Welcome Home' concert

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Following a two-day tour of high schools in Houston and East Texas, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Wind Ensemble will present its "Welcome Home" concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus.

"Going on tour gives us a chance to interact with high school students and their teachers," said Fred J. Allen, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ director of bands and of the Wind Ensemble. "We want to perform for our Nacogdoches audience the pieces we are playing on tour."

The program features music by American composers. Two of the larger works are "Postcard" by Frank Ticheli and "Short Ride on a Fast Machine" by John Adams.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Associate Director of Bands David W. Campo will conduct "Canzona" by Peter Mennin, and Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Assistant Director of Bands Brett A. Richardson will conduct "Tunbridge Fair" by Walter Piston.

"And, of course, we have to play an American march," said Allen. "We will close the concert with 'Barnum and Bailey's Favorite March' by Karl L. King."

The Nacogdoches concert is a joint presentation of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ College of Fine Arts and School of Music. W.M. Turner Auditorium is located in the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr.
