Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Gardens to host spring vegetable gardening workshop

Learn spring vegetable gardening techniques at Spring Gardening 101 hosted by Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Gardens.

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host Spring Gardening 101 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, in the Agriculture Building, Room 110, located at 1924 Wilson Drive on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Campus.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Gardens horticulturists Dawn Stover and Greg Grant will cover the ABCs of spring vegetable gardening including soil preparation and composting along with when, where and what to plant.

After lunch, participants should plan to roll up their sleeves and get dirty. Participants will visit the compost demonstration site at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Mast Arboretum and start vegetable seeds in pots, and everyone will make their own crown tire planter to take home. It should be a full, fun day that will prepare participants to be successful vegetable gardeners.

The cost is $30 for Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Gardens members, $35 for non-members and $55 for both participant and spouse. Lunch is included, and advance reservations are required. To register or for more information, call the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Gardens education office at (936) 468-1832 or e-mail Elyce Rodewald at erodewald@sfasu.edu.
