Be a part of history  

In a town as old as Nacogdoches, history students have plenty of opportunities for internships and public history experience. Our students work and intern at museums, archives and historical sites in and around East Texas.

All graduate and undergraduate history and history education majors and public history minors may enroll in a history internship course in any fall, spring, or summer semester. These internships provide opportunities to learn more about a particular historic place, event, theme, or resource type. While most internships are unpaid, we strive to provide paid positions when possible. Please contact Dr. Perky Beisel for more information.

Here are just a few examples of activities available to students in Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Department of History:

  • sort and arrange historic documents, photographs, ledgers, maps, and other archival materials at the in Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ’s Ralph W. Steen Library;
  • train as docents to give tours locally at the  and  Houses;
  • put on a historic Christmas show, give K-12 educational tours, and participate in living history re-enactments at ; 
  • preserve history by at Oak Grove Cemetery; and
  • research and install exhibits, give tours, and lead hands-on activities at the Stone Fort Museum, a historic 1936 reconstruction of the 1791 original located on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus.
