NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Nathaniel Briggs always knew he wanted to help people; he just didn't know how to achieve his goal. When Briggs first entered college, he was a music education major; however, Briggs, now a Stephen F. Austin State University graduate student in the counseling program, soon realized he "loved people more than music" and changed his major.

Intrigued by the way people think, Briggs of Saginaw, Texas, serves as a counselor-in-training in Ģ����Ƶ's Counseling Clinic, which is provided by the university's Department of Human Services' counselor education program.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Mary Frances Mays Kane, better known as "The Story Lady," has donated her collection of more than 10,000 books and story props for children to her alma mater, Stephen F. Austin State University.

The collection includes Golden Books, first editions, textbooks, fiction, non-fiction and more. Most of the materials will be available for teacher candidates and Early Childhood Lab and Charter School teachers to check out for instruction.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A flute and piano recital featuring Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty members Christina Guenther and Ron Petti, originally scheduled for Tuesday night, Sept. 27, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ģ����Ƶ campus, has been canceled.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Networking has proven key for Stephen F. Austin State University senior international business major Kelly Gomez, who, because of her connections, was able to intern at Green Ibérica, a shipping container company in Vigo, Spain.

For three months, the tall pines of East Texas were replaced with the sandy beaches of Spain as Gomez, a Cleburne, Texas, native, gained real-world, corporate experience handling imports, inspections and invoices for Green Ibérica, an agent of the Evergreen Line.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The East Texas Historical Association has announced Texas Secretary of State Carlos H. Cascos as its 2016 Georgiana and Max S. Lale Lecture featured speaker.

The 20th annual Lale Lecture will begin at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A blue cap with protruding wires maps the brain activity of Stephen F. Austin State University graduate student T.J. Swift as he demonstrates neuro-feedback equipment in the university's Human Neuroscience Lab.

During the demonstration, a monitor displays a digital version of T.J.'s brain with reds, greens and yellows illustrating the electrical signals, while T.J.'s wife and fellow graduate student, Rebecca Recio-Swift, administers a study to track T.J.'s attention.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Ģ����Ƶ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. Dr. James A. Robbins will present "Reflections on the Changing World of Ornamentals in the USA."

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Orchestra of the Pines at Stephen F. Austin State University will spotlight this year’s concerto winners in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ģ����Ƶ campus.

Each work in the program, which is titled “A Musical Homage,” pays homage to another work, according to Dr. Gene H. Moon, director of orchestras at Ģ����Ƶ. The program opens with “Le Tombeau de Couperin,” a work by Maurice Ravel, who pays homage to the Baroque master, François Couperin, Moon said.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will host “State of the Union” exhibition Oct. 4 through Nov. 5 in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches. An opening reception is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –Angela Bacarisse believes “it takes a village” to bring all the pieces of the production puzzle together to form a successful play.

The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre professor often describes working in theatre in two ways: the human connection, and the mechanical connection.

“When you see how many people are involved, it becomes clear that we are a buzzing beehive of a small village,” she said.
