Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ kinesiology and health science students attend Texas American College of Sports Medicine Conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University students in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science recently attended the Texas American College of Sports Medicine Conference.

During the event, more than 50 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ students were introduced to field experts from around the country who presented at the two-day conference. Presentation topics ranged from thermoregulation and hypo-hydration to current concussive issues and skeletal muscle plasticity in astronauts.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ sciences and mathematics undergraduate students present research at state and national conventions


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Six undergraduate students in Stephen F. Austin State University's College of Sciences and Mathematics presented research at the 119th Texas Academy of Science this month, and two students are slated to speak at a national convention in April.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's visual impairment and orientation and mobility program hosts Easter party for area children


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's visual impairment and orientation and mobility program recently partnered with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Braille and Cane Club and the Texas Division for Blind Services to host an Easter party for area children.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ students volunteered during the event to help children create craft projects and engage in activities. There also was an egg hunt on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus with beeping eggs, and children met the Easter bunny and enjoyed petting bunnies and a rooster.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ visual impairment and orientation and mobility students attend regional event


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University students enrolled in the undergraduate visual impairment and orientation and mobility program recently volunteered at See Me Dance, an expanded core-curriculum event for children with visual impairments held in Pittsburg, Texas.

During the event, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ students Jennifer Anderson, Gail Avey and Abby Blackwell helped serve lunch, socialized with attendees and learned dances alongside students with visual impairments.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ College of Education to host second Barrio Writers summer program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's James I. Perkins College of Education will host Barrio Writers, a free weeklong summer writing program, June 13-18 on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

This is the second year Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ is offering the program, which is tailored for students ages 13-21 with an interest in reading and writing.

Students to present at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Undergraduate Research Conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - More than 80 students enrolled in Stephen F. Austin State University's six colleges will showcase the result of months of their research during the 2016 Undergraduate Research Conference on Thursday, March 31, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Archie McDonald Speaker Series to feature Gene Stallings


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Gene Stallings, whose name is synonymous with college football, will headline the 2016 installment of the Archie McDonald Speaker Series at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Stallings, who served as head football coach for the University of Alabama from 1990-97, had an impressive record, including the team's 1992 perfect 13-0 season that culminated with a win in the Sugar Bowl and first Bowl Coalition national championship. Stallings was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 2010.

Goodall to perform final concert with Stone Fort Wind Quintet


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stone Fort Wind Quintet at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform this semester's final Cole Performing Arts Series concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ to host Showcase Saturday for prospective students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Future college students will have the opportunity to experience a taste of campus life during a free, action-packed open house Saturday, April 2, at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

Prospective students will have the opportunity to visit with university faculty and staff members, tour the campus and residence halls, and preview academic programs during the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Showcase Saturday event.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ kinesiology students help administer fitness tests to area school children


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - More than 30 Stephen F. Austin State University kinesiology students recently helped administer a variety of fitness tests to hundreds of area elementary school students.

David Goodman, coordinator of undergraduate studies in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Department of Kinesiology and Health Science, said students in his measurement and evaluation course were able to bring their classroom knowledge into the real world when they administered the tests.
