ĢƵ to host inaugural RAISE Conference focusing on student identities


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Research Advancing Identities and Student Experiences Center at Stephen F. Austin State University will host its inaugural conference from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 22 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center with keynote speaker Mercedes Franks, Nacogdoches Public Library manager.

The conference’s theme in its first year will be “The Research Odyssey: Charting New Waters in Identities, Experiences and Community Engagement.”

ĢƵ School of Art to host exhibition of works by Stringer


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – An exhibition of works by San Antonio-based Japanese artist Hiromi Stringer will show  Feb. 6 through March 23 in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Pianist Milan to present solo concert at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Pianist Dr. Daniel Milan will present a solo guest recital featuring works by Franz Josef Haydn, Frédéric Chopin, Dinu Lipatti and Alexander Scriabin when he performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

Milan describes the program as containing a number of “personal bucket-list pieces.”

ĢƵ to screen ‘Selma’ film in February


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the film “Selma,” written by Paul Webb and directed by Ava DuVernay, at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Doctor of Education in educational leadership program offered through Stephen F. Austin State University’s James I. Perkins College of Education has joined the , a consortium of over 125 colleges and schools of education that have committed to critically examine the doctoral degree in education.

Multiple pianists to present concert at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the annual “Eight-Hands Piano Concert” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, in Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building, on the ĢƵ campus.

ĢƵ to host FIRST LEGO League Challenge area qualifier tournament


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The STEM Research and Learning Center at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the FIRST LEGO League Challenge East Texas area qualifier tournament from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 20 in the Cole STEM Building’s Nelson Atrium.

Prominent Donors to be honored at 33rd annual ĢƵ Gala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University will recognize several prominent donors who have supported the institution during the 33rd annual ĢƵ Gala, slated for Saturday, Jan. 27, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom. Hosted by the ĢƵSU Foundation, the annual black-tie event honors generous benefactors to the university; showcases the impact of their giving on the students, faculty, staff and programs; and reiterates the need for the university’s endowment.

ĢƵ’s Meyer to present percussion recital


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Brad Meyer, associate professor of percussion at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present a faculty recital performing works by Caleb Pickering, Arnor Chu, JacobTV and John Luther Adams at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus. This event features adult language and subject matter that may not be appropriate for some audience members.

‘Stations of Mychal’ song cycle to be performed at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Richard Novak, associate professor of voice at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, will present “Stations of Mychal,” a song cycle commemorating the life, ministry and death of New York Fire Department Chaplain Father Mychal Judge, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
