ĢƵ economics and finance professor weighs in on student debt forgiveness


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — No matter how you feel politically about President Joe Biden’s plan to forgive up to $10,000 of student debt, you need to consider the economic realities of it, said Dr. Mikhail Kouliavtsev, chair of the Department of Economics and Finance in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business.

ĢƵ forestry student honors U.S. military veterans with Honor Flight San Diego


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Brandon Nance, a Stephen F. Austin State University junior forestry major within the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, recently participated in Honor Flight San Diego, escorting military veterans to Washington, D.C., to tour memorials honoring their service.  
 
Honor Flight San Diego is a nonprofit branch of the nationwide Honor Flight Network, which provides veterans who served during World War II through the Vietnam War with an all-expenses-paid trip to tour the nation’s war memorials.
 

ĢƵ to present Golding’s iconic ‘Lord of the Flies’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The story about a group of young boys, trapped on a desert island, who discover the darkness of human nature will come to life on stage when the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and Dance present “Lord of the Flies” Nov. 3 through 6 in Kennedy Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.

ĢƵ students to host fourth annual plant fair on campus featuring winter annuals


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students involved in Stephen F. Austin State University’s horticulture program will host the fourth annual Fall Plant Fair from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at The Plantery, located at 1924 Wilson Drive.
 
Plants available for purchase include a variety of winter annuals, such as pansies, violas, wallflowers, dianthus, stock, dusty miller and snapdragons. All are winter hardy and perform well in East Texas. Plants are $2 per pot or $36 for a tray of 18 plants. 
 

ĢƵ’s A Cappella Choir to perform Duruflé’s Requiem


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem when the choir performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nacogdoches.

The A Cappella Choir is conducted by Dr. Michael Murphy, director of choral activities at ĢƵ. Also performing on Requiem are music faculty members Weston Jennings, organ, and Dr. Scott LaGraff, baritone.

ĢƵ’s Office of Multicultural Affairs to host inaugural Men’s Empowerment Summit


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will host the inaugural Men’s Empowerment Summit from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 28 beginning in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.
 
Incorporating the theme “Legacy in Leadership,” the summit seeks to ensure men understand the legacy their leadership can have in their respective communities and strive to use leadership roles to effect positive change. Topics will include entrepreneurship, mentorship, and health and wellness.
 

ĢƵ theatre students to present Allen’s Neo-Futurist work


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and Dance will present the student-directed “30 Neo-Futurist Plays from Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind (30 Plays in 60 Minutes)" by Greg Allen at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in Regents Suite A in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the ĢƵ campus.

Registration open for ĢƵ Homecoming 5K


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University’s Campus Recreation and Alumni Association will host the 13th annual Homecoming 5K beginning at 5:45 p.m. Oct. 25 on the ĢƵ campus near the Cole STEM Building located on Clark Boulevard.

ĢƵ Gardens receives grant to research pineapple guava production


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — ĢƵ Gardens recently received grant support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service to investigate the potential of pineapple guava as a new, low-input fruit and ornamental crop for production in Texas. 

ĢƵ’s Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band perform celebratory works


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will celebrate the music of Frank Ticheli, Vincent Persichetti and other composers in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Director of the Wind Symphony is Dr. Dan Haddad,  associate director of bands at ĢƵ, and director of the Symphonic Band is Dr. Chris Kaatz, assistant director of bands.
