ĢƵ presents “Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead” through Saturday


ĢƵ teacher candidates provide election activities for local families


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — As the presidential election approaches, teacher candidates at Stephen F. Austin State University are working with the Nacogdoches Public Library to help local families teach their children about their civic duty.

The library is distributing a limited number of election activity boxes assembled by the teacher candidates in ĢƵ’s Community Responsiveness and Engaged Advocacy in Teacher Education program, or C.R.E.A.T.E.

ĢƵ School of Art to host ‘Oil and Water,’ faculty exhibitions


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will present exhibitions that showcase the works of its faculty members in shows planned for Oct. 22 through Dec. 31 in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

“Oil and Water” features photographs taken along the Texas Gulf Coast by Amanda Breitbach, assistant professor of art at ĢƵ.

ĢƵ significantly increases second eight-week fall term course options

ĢƵ nursing students to provide free flu shots to community


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ of Nursing will be partnering with East Texas Community Health Services to provide free flu vaccinations Oct. 7 through 10 during a drive-through event at the ĢƵ of Nursing.
 
Fourth-semester nursing students in the community health course will administer the shots from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The event is open to the public, and health insurance is not required. Children 4 years of age and older are eligible for a vaccine.

ĢƵ Counseling Clinic hosting free therapy groups online


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Counseling Clinic at Stephen F. Austin State University is hosting the following free therapy groups for all ĢƵ students and Texas residents via Zoom.

•    Stress Management and Relaxation Group, 3 p.m., Monday
•    Virtual Support Group for Caregivers, 5 p.m., Monday
•    Career Exploration Group, 4 p.m., Tuesday
•    Virtual LGBTQ+ Support Group for High School Students, 5 p.m., Wednesday

All group sessions last an hour and will run through the end of the semester.

ĢƵ's Dr. Sarah Straub awarded Montgomery Professorship for Humane Education


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Sarah Straub, assistant professor of education studies at Stephen F. Austin State University, was awarded the 2020-22 Montgomery Professorship for Humane Education in the James I. Perkins College of Education.

“Dr. Straub embodies the spirit of this professorship, and we are excited to see her plans unfold,” said Dr. Brandon Fox, chair of ĢƵ’s Department of Education Studies.

ĢƵ Symphony Orchestra to perform works by Tchaikovsky, Milhaud


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University Symphony Orchestra’s virtual performance on Tuesday, Oct. 20, will feature music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Darius Milhaud.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. and accessible through live streaming free of charge at , the concert’s main feature is Tchaikovsky’s “Serenade for Strings,” according to Dr. Gregory Grabowski, the orchestra’s conductor.

“The Tchaikovsky (piece) is one of the biggest standards of string repertoire,” Grabowski said.

ĢƵ Chamber Singers to perform Whitacre’s ‘Five Hebrew Love Songs’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Chamber Singers at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a virtual concert entitled “Sojourn: An Evening of Sonnets, Spirituals and Love” when the ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13.

“The choral works presented on this concert represent a diverse repertoire of both festive, soulful and intimate sounds that will free the mind from the world for an evening,” according to Dr. Michael Murphy, director of choral activities in the ĢƵ School of Music.

ĢƵ offering in-person and teletherapy services for speech and language disorders


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stanley Center for Speech and Language Disorders at Stephen F. Austin State University is now providing in-person as well as teletherapy appointments for clients of all ages.

Services include evaluation and treatment of individuals who have difficulty communicating due to articulation, voice, fluency, language or cognitive impairments (for example, post-stroke issues or traumatic brain injury) or who have issues with swallowing.
