NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University biochemistry junior Carmel Tovar of San Antonio recently received an award for the best undergraduate poster in chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Texas at San Antonio’s 2016 College of Science Research Conference held Oct. 7.
ĢƵ’s Stone Fort Wind Quintet to perform works of American composers
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Stone Fort Wind Quintet performing a concert titled “Invitation to the Dance” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
Music selections for the program were based on the form of the Baroque instrumental dance suite, according to Charles Gavin, ĢƵ professor of horn and chamber music and quintet member.
ĢƵ’s Madrigal Singers to perform works of Somers, Britten in fall concert
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University’s Madrigal Singers will perform a fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
The ĢƵ Madrigal Singers, under the direction of Dr. Tim King, director of choral activities in the ĢƵ School of Music, is a highly select 16-voice ensemble comprised of members of the A Cappella Choir.
Lauters’ works featured at poetry reading
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A poetry reading by Nacogdoches’ prize-winning poets Judith and Ken Lauter will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.
“Rembrandt and Vermeer – Two Dutch Painters as Seen by Two Nacogdoches Poets” will feature the Lauters reading from their books combining poems and paintings. Ken's book is “Vermeer in Words,” and Judith's is “Light from the Left; poems on paintings by Rembrandt.” Each poem will be accompanied by a full-size color slide of the painting it describes.

ĢƵ Press publication edited by English and creative writing chair wins prestigious award
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A publication edited by Dr. Mark Sanders, Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of English and Creative Writing chair and professor, and published by the ĢƵ Press recently won the 2016 Nebraska Book Awards competition in the anthology category.
“Receiving the award is a tremendous honor,” Sanders said. “My creative roots are in Nebraska and the Plains, so this award is an affirmation that I remain a part of that community and that my work in behalf of poetry, fiction, nonfiction and criticism relative to the region is still valuable.”
ĢƵ’s Dr. Tim Clipson receives outstanding teacher-scholar award
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Tim Clipson, professor in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business, received the Meada Gibbs Outstanding Teacher-Scholar Award at the Association for Business Communication international meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The association is an international, interdisciplinary organization committed to advancing business communication, research, education and practice, according to the ABC website.
Clipson has been an ABC member since 1981 and said it’s truly an honor to receive this award.
ĢƵ School of Theatre to present Carr’s ‘By the Bog of Cats’
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre’s presentation of Irish playwright Marina Carr’s “By the Bog of Cats” in the fall of 2016 is not coincidental, and it was not selected by its director on a whim.
Rather, 2016 happens to be the centennial year of the Easter Rising in Ireland, a short-lived but extremely significant revolt against British rule, which led eventually to the establishment of the Irish Free State.
