Clear-bag policy in effect for ĢƵ’s Battle of the Piney Woods at NRG Stadium


As the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjack football team prepares for the Battle of the Piney Woods Saturday, Oct. 1, at NRG Stadium in Houston, it is important that fans also take preparatory steps to ensure they are in compliance with new rules governing the types of purses and bags that may be brought into the stadium.

ĢƵ’s Music Prep announces December recital schedule


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Music Preparatory Division in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music has announced its fall recital schedule.

A number of performances will take place beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, in the performance hall of the Music Prep House, 3028 Raguet St. The afternoon concerts will feature guitar students of Chance Moore, cello students of Kate Hire, harp student of Emily Mitchell, voice students of Charlotte Davis and violin/fiddle students of Emily Williams.

ĢƵ speech-language pathology graduate student receives scholarship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Rebecca Jordy, a speech-language pathology graduate student from Stephen F. Austin State University, was awarded the East Texas Regional Speech, Language and Hearing scholarship for her academic and clinical excellence and leadership abilities.

“I was completely surprised. I’ve been at ĢƵ for four years, so winning a scholarship after graduate school is a huge blessing,” Jordy said. “It’s a big accomplishment to know that the program thinks I’m worthy of receiving this recognition.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A limited number of students can still enroll in a weeklong science, technology, engineering and mathematics camp hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University's STEM Research and Learning Center aimed at engaging East Texas students entering the seventh or eighth grade in hands-on STEM activities.

Pre-Law Academy at ĢƵ introduces high school students to multifaceted law careers


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Scanning the crime scene, dozens of high school students search for clues in a mock case. Displaced clothing and picture frames litter the floor. Could this be the sign of a struggle?  

Last week, Stephen F. Austin State University hosted its fourth annual Pre-Law Academy. During this weeklong program hosted by ĢƵ’s Division of Multidisciplinary Programs, high school students with an interest in law engaged in hands-on activities to better understand the field.

ĢƵ kinesiology and health science graduate students present research at American College of Sports Medicine conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University graduate students studying in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science recently presented research at the annual American College of Sports Medicine conference in Denver, Colorado.

During the conference, students attended presentations on various topics such as exercise physiology, medicine, research studies, professional application and therapeutic settings.

ĢƵ’s Educators’ Summer Art Studio to produce traveling exhibition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University once again has a full house for its annual Educators’ Summer Art Studio, slated this year for June 23 through 25, on the ĢƵ campus.

Twenty-five art teachers from East Texas high schools, middle schools, elementary schools and community colleges have registered for “#Create&Connect2017,” in which they will learn new techniques and work collaboratively to produce a traveling art exhibition, according to Dr. Bill Nieberding, assistant professor of art and the workshop’s director.

ĢƵ Rusche College of Business offers study-abroad experiences in France, Austria


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business offers students the opportunity to study abroad in France and Austria through partnerships with two business schools.

Since 2013, ĢƵ business students have had the opportunity to study at either Groupe Sup De Co La Rochelle in France or MCI Management Center Innsbruck in Austria, which are both business schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

ĢƵ theatre students take on dual roles, duties for SummerStage Festival


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Learning one’s lines for a play can be hard enough for any actor, but when you’re a student actor at Stephen F. Austin State University and involved in the SummerStage Festival, you will often find yourself learning lines for two different characters in two different plays … all at the same time.

Ed and Gwen Cole STEM Building on schedule to be completed by fall 2018


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Structural steel beams are being placed and foundational concrete poured as construction of the Ed and Gwen Cole STEM Building remains on schedule to be completed by fall 2018 on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

“The project began with the demolition of Todd and Gibbs Halls. The site then had selective tree clearing and grading to prepare for foundation construction,” said Ron Watson, associate director of ĢƵ’s physical plant department. “First-floor concrete placement and the related under-slab plumbing and electrical rough-in continue.”
