NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Clayton W. Lowery recently contributed to the C.E. “Charley” Lowery Memorial Scholarship on behalf of his father, John L. Lowery, and his grandfather, O.L. Lowery. His grandfather created the scholarship with the Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association in October 1983 honoring his great-grandfather, the late C.E. Lowery of Nacogdoches.
ĢƵ’s Steel Band to perform spring concert
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Steel Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will play a number of favorites when the student ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
Directed by Dr. Ben Tomlinson, adjunct professor of percussion at ĢƵ, the Steel Band will perform such popular works as “Dus in deh Face,” “Conga Line,” “Soca Tatie,” “Jump in the Line,” “Soca Pressure,” “Kiss the Girl,” “Fiesta Latina,” “Yellow Bird” and “Marianne.”
ĢƵ to recognize Teaching Excellence Award recipients
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University will recognize seven faculty members during its Teaching Excellence Awards Convocation at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Regents’ Suite A on the university campus. This event is free and open to the public.
ĢƵ Gardens to host Art in the Garden
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Make plans to join Stephen F. Austin State University art education majors to create sculptures, paintings, collages, eco-art and more from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 21, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.
“This is a new event at ĢƵ Gardens, and we hope that adults and families with children will join us in the garden to create masterpieces and learn from ĢƵ art students,” said Elyce Rodewald, education coordination at ĢƵ Gardens. “This will be a fun and inspiring way to celebrate spring and Earth Day.”
ĢƵ Wind Ensemble to perform works of composers Mackey, Schwantner
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Works by composers John Mackey and Joseph Schwantner will be featured when the Wind Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University presents the program “Eventide” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.
“The pieces on this concert share a nighttime theme,” said Fred J. Allen, director of bands at ĢƵ.
The featured work is Mackey’s “The Night Garden.”

ĢƵ College of Sciences and Mathematics to host STEM Business and Industry Speaker Series
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Sciences and Mathematics will host the STEM Business and Industry Speaker Series from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, in the Math Building, Lecture Hall 101.
The event aims to connect students to STEM professionals, enabling them to learn from leaders in their field as well as other successful STEM students.
James Dickerson, retired senior managing counsel with Dow Chemical Company and former ĢƵ regent, will speak about the emerging opportunities in STEM fields.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Rajat Mishra, assistant professor in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business, has been named editor-in-chief of the Modern Project Management Journal by Modern Business Press, an online network of business, technology, computing and education journals.
ĢƵ geology students and faculty present at regional conference
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Department of Geology sent eighteen graduate students and faculty members to participate in the 2018 South-Central section meeting of the Geological Society of America, held in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Twelve students and four faculty members presented research on field areas spanning Texas and Arkansas.
ĢƵ’s children’s series presents ‘The Ugly Duckling’
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Children’s Performing Arts Series at Stephen F. Austin State University will celebrate a classic tale of friendship and self-confidence when Virginia Repertory Theatre presents “The Ugly Duckling” in two performances on Friday, April 27, on the ĢƵ campus.
Most children know the literary fairy tale by Danish poet and author Hans Christian Andersen of the swan who grows up “ugly” in a family of ducks, later to find his appearance changing as he discovers his true identity.
