ĢƵ Rusche College of Business hosts fifth annual College to Career Conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University alumni and industry professionals from more than a dozen companies recently shared their expertise with current Rusche College of Business students during the fifth annual College to Career Conference at ĢƵ.

This conference serves as the annual capstone highlight for business students in the Career Success Passport Program, formerly the Student Success Passport Program. This program helps students hone their professional skills while competing for scholarships.

Students to present research in annual Undergraduate Research Conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students nominated from each of Stephen F. Austin State University’s six colleges and one regional college will showcase their research during the 2018 Undergraduate Research Conference 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

ĢƵ’s spatial science program provides key imagery for local non-profit


Stephen F. Austin State University’s spatial science program is using the latest technology in unmanned aerial systems, commonly known as drones, to provide an entirely new vantage of Appleby’s historic Bethel Cemetery, enabling caretakers to precisely document and map the more than 1,500 plots dating back to 1887 when it was founded alongside Bethel Baptist Church.

ĢƵ students showcase research at Texas A&M symposium


Eight undergraduate and graduate students from Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture and the College of Sciences and Mathematics presented their research to a diverse crowd of students and faculty members at Texas A&M’s Ecological Integration Symposium held last weekend.

Mass communication, marketing and art students build campaign for American Advertising Federation competition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Standing in front of their peers inside Stephen F. Austin State University’s film house, four mass communication students take deep breaths and begin their advertising presentation.

Recently, ĢƵ students held a mock presentation to prepare for the annual American Advertising Federation conference and competition, which will take place Saturday, April 14, through Monday, April 16, in Corpus Christi.

ĢƵ jazz concert to feature works by East Texas favorite Dotson


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A concert by the Swingin’ Axes and Swingin’ Aces jazz bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will feature tunes by jazz greats Chuck Mangione, Pat Metheny and Maynard Ferguson, along with works by guest artist Dennis Dotson, when the student ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

Highlighting the Axes’ program are Dotson’s “Close to Home” and “Civic Duty,” according to Dr. Deb Scott, director of the Swingin’ Axes. Dotson, a trumpet player, will perform these tunes and others with the Axes.

Hospitality Shindig fundraising event to feature Kentucky Derby themed dining experience


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University students in the hospitality administration program are hosting the Hospitality Shindig fundraising event from 6 to 9 p.m. April 20 at The Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches.

This event will feature a five-course Kentucky Derby themed dining experience and silent auction. Prior to dinner, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a one-hour reception, which includes a cash bar.

The shindig will serve as a fundraiser to support student scholarships, field trips, conferences and faculty development activities.

Food, nutrition and dietetics students gain real-world experience through simulation


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Gathered in an intensive care unit in Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ of Nursing, Justin Pelham, clinical instructor in the School of Human Sciences, explained medical equipment to a group of senior nutrition and dietetics students as part of a nutrition simulation.

ĢƵ computer science students attend cyber security conference


Students from Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Computer Science recently attended the Women in Cybersecurity conference in Chicago.

Dedicated to bringing together and supporting women in the field, the conference gave students the opportunity to sit in on technical presentations from major companies in the field and participate in mentoring sessions and workshops.
