Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ to present student-directed 'Springtime'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed "Springtime" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18, in the Downstage Theatre on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

Center Point senior Sloan Frierson directs this one-act play by Cuban-American avant garde playwright María Irene Fornés about the eternal story of love and betrayal. The cast includes Dallas sophomore Dominique Rider as Ray; Beaumont freshman Kate Shirley as Greta; and Lake Dallas sophomore Andrea Nelson as Rainbow.

Acclaimed saxophonist Carrol to perform at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Renowned saxophonist Shelley Carrol will appear with the Swingin' Axes when the jazz ensemble and the Swingin' Aces perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Steel Band's spring concert to feature popular sing-along tunes


NACOGDOCHES, Texas -The annual spring concert of Stephen F. Austin State University's Steel Band will feature pop tunes from "then and now," according to Dr. Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ.

The concert, slated for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, in Cole Concert Hall on the university campus, will include such popular songs as "Take on Me," "Margaritaville," "Locked Out of Heaven," "Africa" and "Come on Eileen."

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ to screen 'Mile… Mile and A Half' at Cole Art Center


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Mile… Mile & A Half" at 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Wind Ensemble, A Cappella Choir to collaborate in concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Two of the major performing ensembles at Stephen F. Austin State University will combine forces in a special concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

Select members of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Wind Ensemble and the A Cappella Choir will perform the Mass in E Minor by Anton Bruckner.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Sylvans win 2015 Southern Forestry Conclave


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Sylvans, a timbersports team, captured its third consecutive championship title at the 58th annual Southern Forestry Conclave in Mississippi.

The team of 35 students, composed primarily of forestry majors, competed in technical and physical events against 14 other Southern forestry schools, including Virginia Tech, Clemson, Auburn and Louisiana State University.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Gardens Lecture Series to feature Austin horticulturist


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches.

Matt Welch, a horticulturist for Madrone Landscaping, a design firm specializing in large-scale residential projects throughout the state, will present "Plants, Planting and Pushing the Envelope in Austin Landscapes."

Tolan's 'Stay Carl Stay' to be performed in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Downstage Theatre


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Playwright Peter Tolan's "Stay Carl Stay" is featured among the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre's spring student productions.

Directed by Brownsville senior theatre major Anna Goldberg, "Stay Carl Stay" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 10, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, in the Downstage Theatre in the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.
