Scholarship bass fishing tournament announced


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Campus Recreation Department of Stephen F. Austin State University will host the 2nd annual Dr. Raymond Lee Worsham Scholarship Bass Fishing Tournament on Saturday, June 28, at Jackson Hill Park and Marina on Lake Sam Rayburn in Broaddus.

All proceeds will benefit the Dr. Raymond Lee Worsham Scholarship for Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Campus Recreation established with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Alumni Association.

Brown named Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ student regent

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - An old red and black speckled brick sits among the papers and notebooks on the desk of Stephen F. Austin State University Professor of Theatre Rick Jones.

It's a great conversation piece, but more importantly, it serves as a reminder for Jones that teaching students the historical importance of Irish Theatre has greater impact in Ireland than in a classroom in Nacogdoches. It also reminds him of the significance of being in the right place at the right time.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Gardens Lecture Series to feature native plant expert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches. Peter Loos, former president of The Native Plant Society of Texas, will present "Native Plants That Work for You."

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ SummerStage Festival to bring popular classics to life


NACOGDOCHES, Texas -The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre has renamed its summer theatre program, giving it a fresh new image and approach that's sure to please audiences of all ages.

The 2014 Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ SummerStage Festival, formerly called Summer Repertory Theatre, will feature Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland," adapted by Anne Coulter Martens, and Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird," adapted by Christopher Sergel. The festival runs June 27 through July 18.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ to screen award-winning '20 Feet From Stardom' documentary


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of Academy Award winning "20 Feet From Stardom" at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

In his compelling new film "20 Feet From Stardom," award-winning director Morgan Neville shines a spotlight on the untold true story of the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century, according to the website twentyfeetfromstardom.com.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ students present recreation management plan for Lanana Creek Trail Corridor


During the spring 2014 semester, students enrolled in the forestry program's capstone course, Forest Resource Management, produced four versions of a recreation management plan for the trail corridor extending from north Stallings Drive to Main Street, including the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Recreational Trails and Gardens east of University Drive. The students divided the study area into recreation management zones and conducted a comprehensive resource inventory, mapping existing resources, activity areas and facilities.

Selden elected to SNAG board


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Lauren B. Selden, associate professor of art at Stephen F. Austin State University, was recently elected as a board member for the Society of North American Goldsmiths.

Founded in 1969, SNAG is an international nonprofit organization that serves as the primary organization of jewelers and metal artists in North America. Members include independent studio artists, teachers, students, gallerists, collectors, curators and writers. Selden is the area advisor for metals and jewelry for the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Art.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ students exceed service goal


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University students have logged 93,715 service hours this academic year, exceeding the goal of 90,0000 service hours set by President Baker Pattillo in honor of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's 90th anniversary.
