Nacogdoches, Texas - Dr. David Creech, professor emeritus in the Stephen F. Austin State University Department of Agriculture, is part of a team of U.S. scientists visiting China for a U.S.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Wind Ensemble will present a concert titled "Sinfonietta" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, in W.M. in Turner Auditorium on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

Featured work is the "Sinfonietta" by composer and pianist Ingolf Dahl.

"This is one of the true masterworks for concert band," said Fred J. Allen, director of bands. "It is a three movement piece of serious music written in 1961 by a German composer who admired the compositions of Igor Stravinsky."

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Friends of the Visual Arts board has established a scholarship in honor of Robert Kinsell, retired Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art professor.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces, Stephen F. Austin State University's two student jazz ensembles, will perform their final concert of the fall semester at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, in the Ed and Gwen Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus.

The Swingin' Axes, Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ's premiere jazz band under the direction of Dr. Gary Wurtz, professor of trumpet and jazz studies, will perform a slate of exciting compositions that will "represent jazz dating back to Count Basie as well as some of the most cutting edge modern styles," according to Wurtz.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Orchestra of the Pines will present "A Few of My Favorite Things" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus.

The November concert program is one that the Orchestra of the Pines normally takes on tour, playing for thousands of high school and middle school students in an effort to recruit students to attend Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, according to Dr. Gene H. Moon, director of orchestras.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will present the exhibition "Undefined Expectations: 1970s Era Prints by British Artists" from Nov. 14 through Dec. 13 in Griffith Gallery in the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus.

An opening reception is planned for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Griffith Gallery.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - "When East Meets West: An Evening of Taiwanese and Western Music" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

The music group from Tunghai University (Taiwan) will perform works by various Taiwanese composers. With three voice professors, one cello professor and four piano professors from Tunghai University, the ensemble will perform different types of solo and duet presentations. Works will range from Taiwanese folk songs to contemporary music pieces.

Romeo and Juliet set building

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - One of literature's greatest love stories will be set in a post-apocalyptic world when the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre presents William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" Nov. 19 through 23 in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus.

Houston native Dale Green, a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, has been named interim executive director of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Alumni Association, effective today.

Green joined the Alumni Association staff as director of marketing and membership in January 2011. He previously served as vice president/director of training for a private professional development/corporate training firm in the North San Francisco Bay Area. He received a Bachelor of Arts in communication from Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ in 1999 and a Master of Business Administration from California State University-Sonoma in 2011.

Dr. Mario Ajero, associate professor of piano at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ, will be joined by his son, 9-year-old Antonio "Nio" Ajero, when they present "One-and-a-Half Pianists" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus.
