Music Discovery Camp participants will 'Have a Blast With the Past'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Parents have until July 31 to register their children for Music Discovery Camp, a summer camp offered each year by the Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music.

This year's camp is scheduled from Aug. 5 through 9 with a theme of "Have a Blast With the Past," according to Music Preparatory Division Director Pat Barnett.

Thursday performance of 'Godspell' canceled


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Thursday night opening of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre's performance of "Godspell" has been canceled due to the death of the fiancé of one of the cast members, according to Scott Shattuck, director of the School of Theatre.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ theatre major Kolton Culberson, 23, died as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident that occurred Wednesday night in eastern Nacogdoches County. His fiancée, Mary Creath, is among the cast members of "Godspell."

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ to screen "Ride The Divide" at Cole Art Center


A free screening of "Ride The Divide" will be presented at 7 p.m. Friday, July 5, at The Cole Art Center as part of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Art's First Friday Film Series.

These six 12X12 pieces are available in this year's scholarship fundraiser/sale benefitting the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Art. Silent bidding begins July 5 at The Cole Art Center, and the show closes with the art party and sale at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 20.

July 1 deadline for piano/strings camp registration


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Strings and piano students from across the state still have time to register for a one-week strings and piano camp presented by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music Sunday, July 7, through Friday, July 12.

July 1 is the deadline for registration in the camp, according to Gene Moon, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ director of orchestral activities and the camp administrator.

Through each day of the camp, strings and piano students in seventh through 12th grades will be immersed in quality music making in group and one-on-one master class situations, Moon said.
