New partnership promotes diversity and inclusion in graduate-level athletic training program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science have formed a partnership to educate all graduate-level athletic training students in critical issues relating to diversity and multicultural education. 
  

New ĢƵ partnership ensures database tools for business students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University has entered a technology partnership with Devart, one of the leading developers of database management software, to provide dbForge Studio for Structured Query Language Server to students in the Rusche College of Business.

The integrated development environment helps users design databases, write SQL code, compare databases, synchronize schemas and data, and generate meaningful test data.

Cassandra Montesano, ĢƵ’s Equine Center supervisor, receives President’s Achievement Award


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– One day after celebrating her fourth anniversary as Stephen F. Austin State University’s Equine Center supervisor, Cassandra Montesano received an unexpected phone call. 

On the other end of the call was Dr. Stephanie Jones, associate professor in the Department of Agriculture and director of ĢƵ’s Equine Center, to inform Montesano of the news –– she had been named one of eight recipients of the university’s 2023 President’s Achievement Award. 

Grand opening set for ĢƵ’s Health and Wellness Hub


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Health and Wellness Hub is set for a grand opening at the end of the month that is the culmination of more than a year’s worth of collaboration among multiple departments and the university’s administration.

Scheduled for 2 p.m. Feb. 24, the event will celebrate the consolidation of six departments and services that used to work separately: Health Services, Counseling Services, Student Outreach and Support, the Lumberjack Food Pantry, Student Wellness and an on-campus contact for the Family Crisis Center of East Texas.

ĢƵ’s Department of History to host award-winning filmmaker Gordon Williams Feb. 20


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of History will host Gordon Williams, an award-winning writer, producer and director, for an event titled “Beaumont’s Black History — In Moving Pictures” at 6 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater. The presentation is part of the Robert S. Maxwell Lecture Series.

Parr joins ĢƵ’s Music Preparatory Division teaching faculty


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Pianist Dr. Andrew Parr, former music professor at Stephen F. Austin State University, has joined the faculty of the Music Preparatory Division, announced Alba Madrid, director of the Music Prep program.
 
Parr brings more than 45 years of piano performance and teaching experience to the preparatory program where his wife, Linda, also teaches piano.
 

ĢƵ Gardens’ March lecture to feature horticulturist for the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University's ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. March 9 in the Pineywoods Native Plant Center’s Brundrett Conservation Education Building.
 
Greg Grant, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service horticulturist for Smith County, will present “Making Scents of the Genus Narcissus.”
 

ĢƵ Symphony Orchestra to perform works by Beethoven, Schubert, Saint-Saëns


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 will highlight a concert presented by the Symphony Orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
 
Conducted by Dr. Gregory Grabowski, director of orchestral activities at ĢƵ, the Symphony Orchestra will also perform Franz Schubert’s “Rosamunde Overture” and Camille Saint-Saëns “La Muse et le Poete,” which will feature faculty members Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, violin, and Dr. Evgeni Raychev, cello. 
 

Pianist Han to perform guest recital at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Jiwon Han, collaborative pianist at University of Wyoming, will perform works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Liszt, Florence Price and John Corigliano when he presents a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
