Lone Star Youth Choir to perform with ĢƵ’s Singin’ Axes, Kantorei choirs


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Singin’ Axes and Kantorei choirs at Stephen F. Austin State University will welcome Fort Worth ISD Lone Star Youth Chorus and its director, Jesse Cannon II, along with other guests to perform in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, in Cole Concert Hall on the university campus.
 
The program, “Holding the Light: A Black History Month Celebration” will feature works by Robert Ray, B.E. Boykin and Marques L.A. Garrett, according to Dr. Tod Fish, associate director of choral activities at ĢƵ and Singin’ Axes and Kantorei director.

Nursing conference teaches leadership skills to emerging ĢƵ nursing students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University ĢƵ of Nursing held its inaugural Nursing Leadership Conference Feb. 3 to inspire emerging leaders in the field through dynamic speakers, career placement vendors and an ĢƵ alumni panel discussion.

The conference hosted fourth-semester nursing students, as well as nursing students from Panola College in Carthage.

New partnership promotes diversity and inclusion in ĢƵ’s ĢƵ of Nursing


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and the ĢƵ of Nursing have formed a partnership to train all nursing students and faculty in critical issues relating to diversity and multicultural education.

Dr. Katy Trotty, assistant professor and coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, said the training will focus on giving students and faculty tools to grow personally and professionally.

ĢƵ’s Pineywoods Camerata to perform Baroque music from Germany, Italy


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Pineywoods Camerata at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform Baroque music from Germany and Italy when faculty members and students present a recital at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the ĢƵ campus.
 
The Pineywoods Camerata is a string faculty-led, conductorless ensemble dedicated to performing Baroque works with an informed stylistic approach, according to Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, professor of violin at ĢƵ and Camerata member. The group usually performs once each academic year.

ĢƵ play “Everybody” provides challenges in sound design


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A distinctive twist in Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ play “Everybody” is that, at any given performance, any one of five different actors could play the title role, based on a lottery which also determines what roles will be played by the other four actors in that group.
 

Words of Art student-led collaborative hosts successful event


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the ĢƵ Department of English and Creative Writing recently presented the exhibition “Re-Visions” as part of the Words of Art student organization-led collaborative event that offered contributors with publication and exhibition opportunities. ĢƵ’s Swingin’ Axes, Aces to present works by Tamaro, Nestico, other jazz greats


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Swingin’ Axes and Swingin’ Aces jazz bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform works by Mike Tamaro, Sammy Nestico, Alan Baylock and other jazz legends when the ensembles take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
 
“This is the opening jazz ensemble concert of the spring 2023 semester and will feature some great standards in addition to more recent compositions for jazz ensemble,” said Dr. J.D. Salas, director of jazz studies at ĢƵ and director of the Swingin’ Axes.
 

Dr. Lee Furbeck begins tenure as ĢƵ’s inaugural vice president of enrollment management


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — With goals to emphasize cross-campus collaboration, Dr. Lee Furbeck was named Stephen F. Austin State University’s inaugural vice president of enrollment management and began her tenure in the position Monday.
