Registration underway for iMAS Academy overnight and day camps
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Registration is open for day and overnight camps offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University STEM Research and Learning Center.
The iMAS Academy explores investigations in mathematics and science. This hands-on, minds-on camp focuses on scientific inquiry through dynamic teaching and learning experiences led by ĢƵ faculty members and master teachers at no cost to students.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Matthew Smilor, former director of the award-winning Values and Ventures program for the Neeley Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Texas Christian University, has been named director of the Arnold Center for Entrepreneurship in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business.
During his leadership, Values and Ventures became the No. 1 undergraduate venture creation program in the United States.
ĢƵ Opera Theater to present Bizet’s ‘Carmen’
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The story of an entrancing and free-spirited girl and the inexorable impact of fate is featured when the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University presents Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen.” Based on a novella by Prosper Mérimée, “Carmen” will run nightly March 30 through April 1 in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
“‘Carmen’ is an opera full of spectacle, love, jealousy, ambition, beautiful music and dramatic conflict,” according to Richard Berry, professor of voice at ĢƵ and ĢƵ Opera Theater director.
ĢƵ kinesiology students take first and second place at Texas conference, have sights set on national competition
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Kinesiology and Health Science took home several accolades during the 2023 Texas chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine’s conference in February, including first- and second-place finishes in an academic challenge and a finalist position in a poster contest.
These wins earned the students spots at the ACSM’s national competition slated for later this year in Denver. Twenty-four students from ĢƵ’s James I. Perkins College of Education attended the event in Waco.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — If you ever wondered what kind of shape your voice is in, Stephen F. Austin State University’s Stanley Center for Speech and Language Disorders might have the answer. The center will host a voice screening clinic that’s free and open to the public this semester before being offered for a fee at some point after the introductory spring period.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Hosted by the Stephen F. Austin State University hospitality program, the fifth annual Kentucky Derby dinner and auction is set for 6 p.m. April 14 at the Fredonia Hotel.
Tentatively themed “Spring Day at the Derby,” the event will feature a four-course dining experience inspired by traditional Kentucky Derby dishes. A cocktail reception with a cash bar will take place at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Silent and live auctions will take place throughout the evening.
Graduate assistant conductor Yan showcased in Symphony Orchestra concert
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The conducting talents of Oliver Yan, graduate student in the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University, will be spotlighted when the Symphony Orchestra performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
Yan, who is from Hong Kong, is earning a master’s degree in conducting from ĢƵ. The program will include three major works: “Der Freischütz” Overture by Carl Maria von Weber; “Les Preludes” by Franz Liszt; and L'Arlésienne Suite No. 1 by Georges Bizet.
