ĢƵ STEM Academy students conduct research at Lanana Creek


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Wading into Lanana Creek, three Nacogdoches High School seniors enrolled in Stephen F. Austin State University’s STEM Academy collect water samples to test the creek’s water quality. It’s 7:30 a.m., and immediately the students take note of the environment, jotting down the temperature, humidity and pointing out the creek’s shallowness.

After recording their initial observations, Brandon Smith, Marin Beal and Miranda Allbee take the water’s temperature and measure the depth and flow rate at different locations along the creek.

Nutcracker ticket sales expected to be brisk


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Tickets to attend the Nov. 16 and 17 performances of Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker at Stephen F. Austin State University are available for purchase by the general public beginning Monday, Aug. 14.

An Encore Event presented by the ĢƵ College of Fine Arts, The Great Russian Nutcracker will be presented at 7:30 each night in W.M. Turner Auditorium in the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

New partnership allows ĢƵ to offer interior design degree in Houston


Houston-area students pursuing a bachelor's degree in interior design have a more convenient option as a result of a new partnership between Houston Community College and Stephen F. Austin State University. The institutions have launched a program that will allow students to earn their ĢƵ degree on the Houston Community College Central Campus.

ĢƵ Alumni Association presents 2017 Alumni Awards


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association will honor six alumni during its annual awards banquet beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at The Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches.

The Alumni Association awards its highest honors to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their professions and the community and who advance the goals and values of ĢƵ.

ĢƵ's Dr. Brandon Fox awarded Montgomery Professorship for Humane Education


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Brandon Fox, associate professor of elementary education at Stephen F. Austin State University, was awarded the 2017-20 Montgomery Professorship for Humane Education in the James I. Perkins College of Education.

The professorship was established by the late Charlotte Baker Montgomery in memory of her husband, Roger. The professorship's purpose is to encourage and perpetuate the teaching of humane education concepts and methods in public and private elementary and secondary schools through the support of teacher preparation in humane education.

ĢƵ’s Heterodyne Duo to open Calliope Concert Series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Heterodyne Duo at Stephen F. Austin State University will open the all-new Calliope Concert Series for the ĢƵ School of Music at the start of the fall semester.

The faculty duo, featuring Dr. Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies at ĢƵ, and Dr. Nathan Nabb, professor of saxophone, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the ĢƵ campus.

The program will feature compositions by Nathan Daughtrey, Alex Mincek, Marc Mellits and Iannis Xenakis.

ĢƵ education senior receives McCathey Dressman Education Foundation Scholarship


Maria Landeros, a senior Stephen F. Austin State University student studying early childhood through sixth grade education, received the 2017-18 McCathey Dressman Education Foundation Scholarship.

"Receiving this scholarship has granted me the wonderful opportunity of achieving one of my dearest goals in life, which is becoming a certified teacher," Landeros said.

ĢƵ's Office of Multicultural Affairs to celebrate Hispanic-Latinx Heritage Month with Noche De Gala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University's Office of Multicultural Affairs is hosting Noche De Gala to celebrate Hispanic-Latinx Heritage Month from 7 to 9 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Regents' Suite A.

Dr. Griselda Flores, ĢƵ assistant director for OMA, explained the importance of this event.

ĢƵ to screen 'The Barkley Marathons' race documentary


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of “The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats Its Young” at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

House named new director of ĢƵ School of Theatre


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – When Cleo House Jr. first stepped foot onto the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University, it was to attend the High School Summer Theatre Workshop presented by the School of Theatre. Little did he know as a young aspiring actor in the early 1990s that he would return to ĢƵ in the summer of 2017 as the director of the School of Theatre.
