FVA postcard, notecard sales benefit art scholarships


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The sale of notecards and postcards featuring images depicting Nacogdoches’ history, beauty and artistry continues to benefit art scholarships through a fundraiser organized by the Friends of the Visual Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Local photographers provided the images for the eight different designs featured on the 5-by-4½-inch notecards with envelopes and the 4-by-6-inch postcards that are available for purchase at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Exhibition features Kimball’s detailed lithographs


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – “Fragmentation: The Lithographs of Wayne Kimball” will open Thursday, Sept. 14, in Griffith Gallery on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

The exhibition features finely detailed lithographs on paper.

ĢƵ collecting donations for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — In support of individuals who have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey, Stephen F. Austin State University and various on-campus organizations are collecting donations to aid in relief efforts. Donations are being transported to Drewery Construction, the Nacogdoches company that is making daily deliveries to shelters in affected areas.

ĢƵ to host follow-up to successful blood drive


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Almost 200 donors participated in a blood drive Thursday at Stephen F. Austin State University to benefit people impacted as a result of Hurricane Harvey. Due to overwhelming response, a second blood drive is now scheduled.

“We were able to take donations from 193 people,” said Collin Rutherford, ĢƵ graduate student and Leadership and Service Programs representative. “We have 48 already signed up to donate next Thursday, Sept. 7. The cooperation of the staff and generosity of the students made this one of the best blood drives we've seen.”

ĢƵ Gardens’ Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature Oregon horticulturist, George Hull


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. George Edward Hull, horticulturist from Portland, Oregon, will present “From Over the Top to Down Under: Adventures in Horticulture.”

ĢƵ interior design program partnering with Houston Community College to aid in hurricane relief


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s interior design program is partnering with Houston Community College to collect supplies for students in HCC’s interior design program who were affected by Hurricane Harvey.

In early August, ĢƵ and HCC formed a partnership to offer Houston-area students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in interior design a more convenient option to acquire their degree. HCC students can now earn an ĢƵ degree in interior design on the HCC Central Campus.

Faculty members at ĢƵ examine education system in Cuba


NACOGDOCHES, Texas  — A recent trip to Cuba by two Stephen F. Austin State University faculty members in the Department of Secondary Education and Educational Leadership made it possible for them to study Cuba’s educational system and culture through Educational Leaders Without Borders, an organization advocating universal education.

ĢƵ alumni and students serve hundreds of patients in Guatemala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Four Stephen F. Austin State University alumni working in health-care-related fields joined with two ĢƵ dietetic intern graduate students this summer to provide care to more than 400 patients in Guatemala.

ĢƵ dietetic interns Brandi Gouldthorpe of Tyler and Leslie Rowe of Gladewater worked alongside ĢƵ alumni Leslie Goudarzi and Hannah Dunahoe, registered dietitians, Dr. Tedd Mitchell, president of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and internist, and Dr. Ben Mack, general surgeon in Longview, to help those in need.

Guest percussionist Hamilton to perform at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Percussionist and composer Sean Hamilton will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus as part of the School of Music’s Calliope Concert Series.

Choreograph your evening with Taylor 2


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – As if attending the opening performance of the 2017-18 University Series at Stephen F. Austin State University isn’t exciting enough, there are other events before and after the dance program to whet an appetite for good food and great entertainment.

New York City-based dance company Taylor 2 opens the season at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus. Taylor 2’s performance is sponsored in part by Cataract, Glaucoma & Retina Consultants of East Texas/Benchmark Optical/Medical Arts Surgery Center.
