ĢƵ’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture hosts community-wide tree contest


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Beginning the week of Sept. 18 through Friday, Nov. 17, Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture will host NacogdoTREES, a free, community-wide contest celebrating the natural beauty of Nacogdoches.

Former ĢƵ twirler recalls special time at ĢƵ nearly 70 years ago


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – With excitement and anticipation, Mary Jo Goodwin Morris made the five-hour drive from her home in New Braunfels to the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

The 87-year-old former ĢƵ twirler had been invited to attend the Lumberjack Marching Band and Twirl-O-Jacks Reunion and to perform with an ĢƵ alumni band in Homer Bryce Stadium prior to the kickoff of the football game between the ĢƵ Lumberjacks and the University of Incarnate Word.

ĢƵ’s Music Prep to host Middle School Choir Camp


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Music Preparatory Division in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will host its annual fall Middle School Choir Camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, in the Wright Music Building on the ĢƵ campus.

The choir camp is designed to help East Texas area middle school students learn their UIL all-region competition music, according to Pat Barnett, director of the Music Preparatory Division.

ĢƵ’s Calliope Series to present unique horn, fiddle performance


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Calliope Concert Series at Stephen F. Austin State University will present guest artist Jacquelyn Adams performing a horn recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Adams, who is assistant professor of horn at The University of Southern Mississippi, will perform with her husband, award-winning fiddler Thomas Jenkins, accompanied by ĢƵ School of Music faculty member James Pitts, piano.

First recipient of Christopher J. Snyder Memorial Scholarship announced at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — With tears still welling at the corner of her eyes, Natalie Clem of Memphis, Tennessee, offered her sincere gratitude for being named the first recipient of the Christopher J. Snyder Memorial Scholarship, which was recently endowed at Stephen F. Austin State University.

ĢƵ Gardens to host fall plant sale


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host its annual Fabulous Fall Festival Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St., in historic Nacogdoches.

Artist talks planned to showcase current exhibitions


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and its galleries will host two events to showcase exhibitions currently showing in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House and in Griffith Gallery.

ĢƵ’s Rusche College of Business to co-host Regional Fall Student American Marketing Association Conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s American Marketing Association student chapter and the University of Houston Downtown are co-hosting the Regional Fall Student AMA Conference from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in the McGee Business Building on the ĢƵ campus.

The conference offers students an opportunity to compete in marketing and sales competitions as well as listen to guest speakers. All students, regardless of their major, are welcome to attend this free conference.

ĢƵ music faculty recital to feature works for saxophone, piano


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Fun and exciting works for saxophone and piano will be featured in a recital presented by Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music faculty member Dr. Nathan Nabb at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Nabb, professor of saxophone, will be joined by Hyun Ji Oh, collaborative pianist, for a program of established works for saxophone and piano that Nabb describes as “excellent chamber pieces in which the technical and musical characteristics of the saxophone and piano are both featured.”

ĢƵ’s Orchestra of the Pines to present ‘Beethoven’s Seventh’ program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Orchestra of the Pines at Stephen F. Austin State University opens its 2017-18 season with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony on Monday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

The Orchestra of the Pines, in its 12th season with ĢƵ’s Director of Orchestras Dr. Gene H. Moon, continues the tradition of presenting classical orchestral concerts to the community, students and region.
