ĢƵ’s Jacks Council on Family Relations accepting donations for Thanksgiving Homebound project


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Members of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Jacks Council on Family Relations are gearing up for their annual food drive, Thanksgiving Homebound.

Since 2011, JCFR has participated in this project to help area families during the holidays. Each year, the number of families they serve increases. Last year, members delivered food to more than 100 families. Jaycie Case, JCFR president, said their goal this year is to feed 200 families.

Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band to perform Daugherty’s award-winning music


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform a concert featuring the music of Grammy Award-winning composer Michael Daugherty at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.

Certain selections on the program are dedicated in memory of Caleb Gibbs, ĢƵ freshman music major who died earlier this semester.

fLOW Quartet to perform at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Dallas-Fort Worth area-based fLOW Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the Music Recital Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University as part of the ĢƵ School of Music’s Octubafest celebration.

Octubafest is an event that occurs at many universities around the world. The observance is designed to highlight the tuba and euphonium for their solo and chamber repertoire, according to Dr. J.D. Salas, associate professor of tuba and euphonium studies at ĢƵ.

ĢƵ kinesiology students, athletics department partner for ‘Be The Match’ marrow donor drive


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University students enrolled in entry-level kinesiology courses partnered with ĢƵ’s athletics department and student-athletes to host a Be The Match National Marrow Donor Program community drive on the university campus.

Approximately 100 ĢƵ students in courses taught by Patty Berthot, ĢƵ lecturer in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science, and many student-athletes worked to promote the drive and encourage others to become bone marrow donors.

Interior design students at ĢƵ help plan station for Douglass Volunteer Fire Department


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Approximately 60 Stephen F. Austin State University interior design students recently participated in a charrette, an intense design period, to help plan and design a new fire station for the Douglass Volunteer Fire Department.

Wind Ensemble to perform music of Grammy Award-winning Daugherty


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Wind Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform a concert featuring the music of American composer Michael Daugherty at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.

A Grammy Award winner, Daugherty is professor of composition at the University of Michigan.

“He will be at ĢƵ for the concert and to speak to our classes,” said Fred J. Allen, director of bands and the conductor for the Wind Ensemble. “We will perform three of his compositions on this concert.”

The Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet promises fun concert program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The dynamic and creative Breaking Winds Bassoon Quartet will present “A Broken Anthology of Western Music” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

Office of Multicultural Affairs at ĢƵ to host 2017 Homecoming Step Show


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs will host its annual Homecoming Step Show at 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Johnson Coliseum on campus.

Although the step show has been hosted for several years at ĢƵ, this is the second year it will take place alongside Homecoming festivities.

ĢƵ students leave their fingerprints on chemical research


NACOGDOCHES, TX — Two Stephen F. Austin State University undergraduate students are conducting new research on latent fingerprinting techniques to help determine how different chemical processes reveal fingerprints.

ĢƵ’s Homecoming set for Oct. 20 - 22


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The annual Stephen F. Austin State University Homecoming celebration begins Friday, Oct. 20, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 22. This year’s theme is “Unmasque Your Spirit.”  

The weekend festivities start at 11 a.m. Friday with the 44th annual ĢƵ Alumni Golf Tournament at the Piney Woods Country Club. The individual entry fee is $150 and includes tournament play, golf cart, refreshments, box lunch and post-tournament hors d’oeuvres. Team entries also are available. This is a four-player scramble.
