Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ theatre student selected for national scholarship award


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University theatre major Kathleen Easterling of Central Heights was recently selected as one of two national Alpha Psi Omega Scholarship recipients for 2015-2016.

Continuing a tradition of excellence in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Theatre, Easterling's selection represents the fourth time in seven years an Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ theatre student has been chosen for this prestigious award, according to Dr. Richard Jones, professor of theatre at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ and advisor to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Beta Phi cast of Alpha Psi Omega. Jones nominated Easterling for the award.

Two Stephen F. Austin State University students were among 47 undergraduates chosen from a nationwide pool to receive scholarships through the Phi Eta Sigma national honor society. Biochemistry sophomore Carmel Tovar, left, received a $1,000 scholarship. Tovar just finished her tenure as the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Phi Eta Sigma president for the 2015-16 school year and said "the scholarship reassures me that my hard work is paying off.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Psychology Club and Psi Chi chapter, an international psychology honors society, will host the inaugural Psychology Research Seminar Conference Tuesday, May 10, in the McKibben Education Building.

Registration under way for Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Summer Art Academy


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Registration has begun for the annual Summer Art Academy offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art for the two-week camp that will meet June 6 through 17 on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

Students going into kindergarten through sixth grade may enroll in classes that include drawing, painting and ceramics.

"The academy is an exciting opportunity for young artists to work with a variety of media under the supervision of practicing artists and educators," said Cala Coats, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ art instructor and director of the academy.

Backstage was mayhem as designers, college students and make-up artists prepared to showcase their creations in front of hundreds of people.
