NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Dr. Brad Meyer performing "LI" in the Trees at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 7, in the Free Speech Area on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.
This concert will feature the world premiere of Meyer's latest percussion ensemble composition, "LI," which stands for "Lines of Inspiration."
"The composition is an abstract, semi-improvisation structure to help facilitate an atmosphere of interactive music and art," said Meyer, professor of percussion studies at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University senior Brooke Taylor-Johnson received the Olds Family Student Teacher Award, which honors an exemplary student teacher from Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Department of Elementary Education each semester.
University field supervisor Maryann Bentley nominated Nacogdoches native Taylor-Johnson for the honor, and a committee of six Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ elementary education faculty members, who reviewed teaching videos and additional nomination materials, selected her to receive the award.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Latin Lumberjacks ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with an outdoor concert from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, in the plaza outside the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.
The Latin Lumberjacks is comprised of members of the Sound Recording Technology program within the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Music. Directed by Luigi Lazareno, music faculty member, the group will perform a variety of popular songs in salsa style.

Stephen F. Austin State University's Phi Beta Lambda sweeps state conference, 13 students qualify for nationals
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Members of Stephen F. Austin State University's professional business student organization, Phi Beta Lambda, won 13 first-place awards in various competitions during the recent 2016 PBL State Leadership Conference in Dallas.
In addition to their record-breaking number of awards, 13 students qualified for the annual National Leadership Conference in multiple events, which Henry Dunn, PBL faculty adviser and lecturer of general business at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, said is the university's largest qualifying group in the organization's history.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the annual Choral Masterworks Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.
Under the direction of Dr. Tim King, director of choral studies at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, the A Cappella Choir, Choral Union, Women's Chorus and the Orchestra of the Pines will perform "An American Requiem" by Richard Danielpour. Guest soloists will be Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ alumni Erin Roth, mezzo-soprano; Richard Novak, tenor; and Casey Jones Parrish, baritone.
