Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ to stage student-directed 'Language of Angels'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed one-act play "Language of Angels" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Downstage Theatre on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

Written by Naomi Iizuka, "Language of Angels" will be directed by junior theatre major Sarah Chavez of Nacogdoches. The play is set in North Carolina where a group of friends enter a cave, and one of the girls disappears.

Percussionist James Campbell to perform with Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ student musicians


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - World-renowned percussionist James Campbell will perform with the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Percussion Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

The concert, presented by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Percussion Studio under the direction of Dr. Brad Meyer, will feature several of Campbell's compositions he has written throughout the past two decades.

Noted flutist Pallottelli to perform at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present internationally acclaimed flutist Sergio Pallottelli in concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building as part of the Cole Performing Arts Series.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Theatre to stage 'Blood Wedding'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Theatre will present Federico García Lorca's "Blood Wedding" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, Feb. 25 through March 1, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ announces spring enrollment figures


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University has recorded a spring enrollment of 11,623 students.

This figure represents a slight decrease from the enrollment of 11,812 recorded in spring 2013. University officials attributed the 1.6-percent decrease to various factors, including higher Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ admission standards and graduation of the largest class in school history last May.

Guest saxophonist to perform at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ


The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Robert Young, guest saxophonist, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

An award-winning musician, Young is on the faculty of SUNY-Potsdam's Crane School of Music and has performed with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings and Charleston Symphony Orchestra, among other ensembles.

Nacogdoches Naturally sponsoring Great Backyard Bird Count


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Celebrate our fine, feathered friends and learn bird-identification skills at the Great Backyard Bird Count at Stephen F. Austin State University from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.

This family outdoor event is sponsored by Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Gardens and Nacogdoches Naturally and is designed to increase knowledge and appreciation of birds and birding. A variety of fun, family-friendly activities will be available, including "Bird Olympics" and bird-related crafts.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Music participates in new Internet piano audition network


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music is one of the first institutions in the country to participate in Yamaha's Disklavier Education Network (DEN).

DEN is an ambitious web initiative poised to change the way in which schools, educators and students collaborate with each other, conduct master classes over the web and audition students, thanks to the company's Internet-connected reproducing piano, according to Dr. Mario Ajero, associate professor of piano pedagogy at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ to have strong presence at TMEA's state convention


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will showcase the talent and expertise of its students and faculty in a number of ways at the 2014 Texas Music Educators Association Convention in mid-February in San Antonio.

When the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Wind Ensemble performs at TMEA, it will be for the 10th time, with five of those appearances under the direction of Fred J. Allen, director of bands at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ for the past two decades.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ to host Showcase Saturday for prospective students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Future college students will have the opportunity to experience a taste of campus life during two free, action-packed open-house Saturdays at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches on Feb. 22 and March 29.

Prospective students will get to visit with university faculty and staff, tour the campus and residence halls, and preview academic programs during the two Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Showcase Saturday events.
