Tickets to King's Singers' Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ performance selling quickly


NACOGDOCHES, Texas -The King's Singers will continue the North American tour of "Great American Songbook" when they perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in W.M. Turner Auditorium at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Tickets are selling at a fast pace, but there are still excellent seats available for the group's Nacogdoches performance, according to Diane Peterson, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Fine Arts Box Office manager.

Concert will benefit Saslav string scholarship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Proceeds from an upcoming concert slated for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University will benefit the Isidor Saslav String Scholarship at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ.

"Coleidoscope" is a series of collaborative chamber music faculty concerts honoring the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Music's invaluable patrons, Ed and Gwen Cole, according to Evgeni Raychev, cellist and Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ music faculty member.

"In fact, this concert could be regarded as a gesture of gratitude to the music patrons in our area," Raychev said.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Gardens lecture series to feature garden writer


Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, in the new Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches. Garden writer Jay White will present "Weed Free-Organically."

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Now is the time to get a jump start on springtime vegetable gardening and create a garden experience for the whole family to enjoy together.

TEDxÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ event


Stephen F. Austin State University and Red River Radio's Kate Archer Kent will host an independently organized Technology, Entertainment, Design event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater. Inspired by "curiosity," TEDxÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ will be an exciting day of deep conversations and connections among the more than 15 speakers and all attendees. During the past week, a red "X" has been placed around campus to raise awareness about TEDxÄ¢¹½ÊÓÆµ.

Jordan guest piano recital rescheduled at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A performance by acclaimed pianist Dr. Krassimira Jordan has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

Jordan was originally scheduled to perform on Jan. 24, but the closure of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus due to inclement weather resulted in the cancellation of her recital that night.

Senior interior design exhibit opening at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Senior interior design students at Stephen F. Austin State University will be showcasing their work during in the "Essence of Design" exhibit on display Feb. 1 through March 1 on the second floor of the Ralph W. Steen Library.

Each of the 13 students designed, fabricated and installed a freestanding structure on which to display work. The structures reflect each student's design philosophy and personality, as well as provide a backdrop for each display.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Art to screen "The Rape of Europa"


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "The Rape of Europa" at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Schmidbauer Competition bringing top musicians to Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ for Saturday event


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - When the contestants in the 2014 Schmidbauer Young Artist Competition take the stage Saturday, Feb. 1, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus, it will be obvious the level of talent the competition attracts.

From performing in Carnegie Hall to serving as concertmasters for youth orchestras, each of the musicians who will perform at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ on Saturday excelled at an early age and is already making headlines in classical music.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Board of Regents approves faculty, staff changes


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents approved faculty and staff changes during its quarterly meeting Monday.

Staff appointments within two academic colleges were approved, including Kathleen Snyder, certification officer and post baccalaureate initial certification program manager in the James I. Perkins College of Education, and Robert Selden, research associate for the Center for Regional Heritage Research in the College of Liberal and Applied Arts.
