ĢƵ percussionist Vilseck to present concert of challenging works
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Jamie Vilseck, percussion faculty at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present a concert featuring Joseph Schwantner’s landmark work “Velocities” at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building, on the ĢƵ campus.
Vilseck’s repertoire for this concert includes “challenging literature covering a breadth of percussion instruments,” he said.
ĢƵ mathematics professor secures National Science Foundation grant for conference support
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University announces that Dr. Brittney L. Falahola, associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, has been awarded a grant by the National Science Foundation.
The grant supported the development of educational workshops at the eighth annual Gulf States Math Alliance Conference. Faculty workshops focused on the advancement of educational and professional development in mathematical sciences.
ĢƵ’s School of Social Work kicked off Social Work Month with proclamation event
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Social Work kicked off Social Work Month Wednesday with a proclamation event to begin a number of events the school will host to honor the social work profession.
Nacogdoches County Commissioner Robin Dawley delivered the proclamation to the School of Social Work’s faculty members, field instructors, students and others in attendance.
Saxophonist Kahl to perform at ĢƵ
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Saxophonist Don-Paul Kahl will present the guest recital “States of Being” at 6 p.m. Monday, March 18, in Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building, on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
“Each concert work explores, on its own, a different facet of being – from the poetic to the hidden monster within, from delicate moments of joy to the darkest depths of grief,” Kahl states. “In this way, the human experience is given space to be what it is without limits. It is only then that we closer understand what it is to be human.”
Hicks selected as keynote speaker at UNT symposium
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Candace Hicks, associate professor of art in the School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University, will be the keynote speaker at “From Artists’ Books to Zines” symposium Saturday, March 23, at the University of North Texas’ Willis Library in Denton.
ĢƵ Department of Mass Communication, Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce partner for community-focused television program
NACOGDCOCHES, Texas –– Students from Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Mass Communication collaborated with the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce to produce a new television program, “We Are Nacogdoches,” on the department-run local television station ĢƵ-TV2.
Hosted by Kelly Augustine, the chamber’s chief executive officer, the program’s purpose is to highlight people, organizations and issues that shape Nacogdoches, the town ĢƵ has called home for its century of existence.

ĢƵ to host district, regional UIL One-Act Play contests
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Theatre and Dance at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the University Interscholastic League 3A District 21 One-Act Play Contest Friday, March 8, in the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the university campus.
Performances will begin at 10 a.m. in the Flex Theatre and will continue throughout the day. Admission is free to watch the student performances.
