ĢƵ dean, student receive recognition at Texas Society of American Foresters meeting


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Hans Williams, dean of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, received the Laurence C. Walker Distinguished Service to Forestry Award at the Texas chapter of the Society of American Foresters meeting held this month in Lufkin.

ĢƵ students to host plant fair on campus featuring summer annuals and edibles


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s horticulture program will host the annual Spring Plant Fair from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the ĢƵ Plantery, located at 1924 Wilson Drive.  

Plants available for purchase include edibles like tomatoes and peppers, as well as a variety of summer annuals, including begonias, coleus, globe amaranth, summer snapdragons, vinca and more. All plants grow and perform well in East Texas.  

ĢƵ regents approve new enrollment initiative, other proposals and policy revisions


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Members of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Board of Regents met to discuss various campus initiatives, approving policy revisions and hearing reports during their recent quarterly meeting.
 
Regents approved an initiative to enhance enrollment with the addition of a STUNT program for female athletes beginning fall 2023. The fast-growing sport, which is derived from traditional cheerleading, features a head-to-head game between two teams that present routines in such categories as partner stunts, jumps and tumbling, and pyramids and tosses.

ĢƵ regents appoint interim president, approve faculty and staff appointments


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — During its quarterly meeting Sunday, the Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents appointed Dr. Steve Westbrook to serve as ĢƵ’s interim president until a permanent president assumes the office.
 
Former ĢƵ president Dr. Scott Gordon and the university mutually agreed it is in the best interest of both parties for the employment relationship to end on Sunday.
 

ĢƵ to share research on engaging students to ensure academic success


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — As part of the new Stephen F. Austin State University President’s Innovation Fund, more than 20 ĢƵ faculty and staff members will present their award-winning research at the Celebration of Innovation from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 20 and from noon to 2:30 p.m. April 21 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.
 

ĢƵ senior art student Noto earns prestigious AEFH scholarship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University art student Christina Noto has been awarded a scholarship from the Advertising Education Foundation of Houston.

A senior from Austin, Noto is the 2022 winner of the AD2 Houston Dwight Douthit Scholarship Fund. A graphic design major with minors in physics and astronomy, she will receive a $5,000 award. Noto is only the second ĢƵ recipient in the school’s history to receive an AEFH scholarship.

ĢƵ student journalists earn statewide recognition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University student journalists received 25 awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association for their performance at a statewide journalism competition and for their contributions to campus media outlets throughout 2021.

The Pine Log, ĢƵ’s student newspaper, earned 12 awards for previously published/broadcast content, and the Stone Fort yearbook won nine awards for its 2020-21 volume. KSAU, ĢƵ’s student-run radio station, also received a first-place award in the advertising/PSA/Promo-Audio category.

ĢƵ’s Model EU team earned Best Delegation at the Midwest Model European Union competition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s Model European Union team, which consists of nine political science majors within the Department of Government, earned Best Delegation honors at the Midwest Model European Union Competition.

ĢƵ’s Symphonic Band, University Band to present final spring concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Symphonic Band and University Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform “a homage to the heavens” during the ensembles’ final spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
