ĢƵ’s presentation of “The Taming of the Shrew” opens Tuesday


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University will present William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” at 7:30 nightly Tuesday through Saturday, April 5 through 9, in Kennedy Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus. Rehearsing a scene from the play are students Maggie Jordan, Pasadena junior, as Katherina, and Daun Whaley, Texarkana junior, as Petruchio. General ticket prices are: $15, adult; $10, senior (62+); $7.50, ĢƵ faculty/staff; $7.50, youth; $5, student.

‘Gallantry: A Soap Opera,’ ‘Gianni Schicchi’ among ĢƵ Opera Theater highlights

ĢƵ Opera Theater to feature works by Moore, Puccini, Copland


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Voice students at Stephen F. Austin State University rehearse a scene from Giacomo Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi” as part of the School of Music’s 2022 Opera Theater production. One-act operas “Gianni Schicchi” and “Gallantry: A Soap Opera” by Douglas Moore, along with the chorus scene “Stomp Your Foot” from “The Tender Land” by Aaron Copland, are the featured works to be presented at 7:30 nightly Thursday through Saturday, March 31 through April 2, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for students and youth.

ĢƵ Percussion Ensemble to perform works by Trevino, Skidmore, Perez


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Works by Ivan Trevino, David Skidmore and Francisco Perez are among the program selections to be showcased when the Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University presents its final spring concert of 2022 at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 4, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Directed by Dr. Brad Meyer, associate professor of percussion in the ĢƵ School of Music, the ensemble will also perform works by Dave Hall, Chad Floyd, Mark Ford, Michael Laurello and ĢƵ’s Dr. Jamie Vilseck, percussion adjunct faculty member.

ĢƵ Trombone Choir to perform works by Hennagin, Edwards


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Trombone Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform along with smaller ensembles, including trombone quartets and an octet, on a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

ĢƵ Gardens’ April lecture to feature crape myrtle bark scale specialist


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Les and Theresa Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. April 14 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.
 
Dr. Mengmeng Gu, professor and ornamental extension specialist in the Department of Horticultural Sciences at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in College Station, will present “Do We Need to Be Scared of Crape Myrtle Bark Scale?”
 

ĢƵ regents and dean to dedicate business building areas in honor of donors


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business will unveil three newly renovated and named areas on the first floor of the McGee Business Building, including two in honor of ĢƵ donors, at 1:30 p.m. April 22.
 
In addition to the donors who made these renovations possible, members of ĢƵ’s Board of Regents and Rusche College of Business Dean Dr. Timothy Bisping will be present to dedicate the Gerald and Candy Schlief Lobby, Jimmy D. Berry Dean’s Suite and Rusche College of Business auditorium.
 

NOBLE Scholar banquet to honor Nacogdoches County high school seniors


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Nacogdoches County’s Opportunity for a Better Learning Experience banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, March 28, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom at Stephen F. Austin State University.
 
A total of 172 high school seniors from across Nacogdoches County were invited to attend this year’s banquet, which will honor students for excellence in coursework, community service and good citizenship during their four years in high school.
 

ĢƵ Sylvans win 63rd annual Southern Forestry Conclave


The Sylvans, Stephen F. Austin State University’s timbersports team, claimed top honors at the 63rd annual Southern Forestry Conclave, surpassing 11 other well-known universities from across the southern United States in both technical and physical forestry competitions. The event, hosted by the University of Tennessee, comes after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
