ĢƵ music faculty to present “Girl Power” voice, piano program
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Girl Power,” a concert featuring art songs for voice and piano written by women composers, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
The performance will include works by Margaret Bonds, Jennifer Higdon, Lori Laitman, Maria Theresia von Paradies and Caitlin Vincent.
ĢƵ A Cappella Choir’s TMEA preview concert closed to public
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A planned Feb. 8 performance by the A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University to present the program the ensemble plans to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association annual convention has been closed to the public due to Covid concerns.
Dr. Michael Murphy, director of choral activities for the ĢƵ School of Music, said the decision to close the concert to the public is a precautionary measure as the choir prepares for its performance at the TMEA event in San Antonio Feb. 9 through 12.
ĢƵ School of Theatre to present student-directed ‘In Shakespeare and the Bible’
NACOGDOCHES, Texas –The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed one-act play “In Shakespeare and the Bible” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, in Regents Suite A in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the ĢƵ campus.
ĢƵ achieves reaccreditation after months-long assessment
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University was recently reaffirmed in its accreditation following a months-long process that produced a 508-page granular assessment of all aspects of the school, from student success to credentialing for faculty members.
Ticket sales opening soon for ĢƵ’s Culinary Café, Lumberjack Express
NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Ticket sales for Stephen F. Austin State University’s student-run Culinary Café and Lumberjack Express mobile food lab will open at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31.
Tickets for the Culinary Café are $10 and include a three-course meal, along with tea, coffee and water. Tickets are not limited but quickly sell out.
ĢƵ’s Pineywoods Camerata to perform works by Bach, Handel, Telemann
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Mezzo soprano Dianna Grabowski will be a featured soloist when the Pineywoods Camerata performs at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
The Pineywoods Camerata is an ĢƵ faculty-led, conductorless chamber orchestra, dedicated to period-informed performances of Baroque music, according to Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, professor of violin and viola in the School of Music and member of the ensemble.
Guggenheim Fellow to share work bridging art, science in Feb. 3 lecture
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dornith Doherty, 2016 Texas State Artist - 2D and 2012 Guggenheim Foundation Fellow, will visit the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art on Thursday, Feb. 3. As part of her visit, Doherty will offer a public lecture on her work bridging art and science at 5 p.m. that day in the Lower Art Building, Room 106. The lecture is open to the public free of charge, and masks are strongly encouraged.
ĢƵ music alumna Allan to serve as president of NATS
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Performer and educator Dr. Diana Allan, who earned a Master of Arts in vocal performance from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1989, will be installed as the president of the National Association of Teachers of Singing during the organization’s biennial business meeting on July 6 at the in Chicago.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University has been invited to perform at this year’s Texas Music Educators Association convention slated for Feb. 9 through 12 in San Antonio. Representing more than 17,000 current and future music educator members, TMEA works to support the future of music education in Texas.
