ĢƵ Gardens’ Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature director Dr. David Creech


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. Dr. David Creech, director of ĢƵ Gardens, will present “The Year in Review: Surviving a Career in Academia with No Permanent Injuries.”

Prominent donors to be honored at 29th ĢƵ Gala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University will honor several prominent donors during the 29th annual ĢƵ Gala Saturday, Dec. 9, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

Honorees this year include Susan and Sam Calomino and Alfred and Madeline Danheim.

ĢƵ receives national, state rankings for online education, affordability


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University has received rankings on the national and state levels for its online education and affordable programs.

Nationally, Best Colleges Online ranked ĢƵ fourth for the most affordable online master’s degree in educational leadership. Best Colleges Online “provides expert insights into the best-accredited online universities across the United States,” according to bestcollegesonline.org.

ĢƵ school psychology associate professor, video blogger inspires in the classroom and online


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — It’s a simple necklace, nothing too fancy. The triangular shape and blue stone may go unnoticed by most, but for Dr. Nina Ellis-Hervey, director of Stephen F. Austin State University’s School Psychology Assessment Center and associate professor, it’s a reminder of what she stands for: strength, confidence and power.

While she admits she doesn’t wear the necklace every day, Ellis-Hervey always tries to include blue in her wardrobe.

“Blue is a color often associated with males, but for me, it’s a symbol of confidence and power,” Ellis-Hervey said.

ĢƵ business students attend Sport Marketing Conference in Boston


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University students in the Rusche College of Business traveled to Boston to participate in the Sport Marketing Association conference.

Local residents have special connections with Annie Moses Band


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – “Christmas with the Annie Moses Band” is a must-see holiday event. Just ask two local fans – one who taught harp to one of the band’s members and one who has performed with the band at the Grand Ole Opry and Carnegie Hall.

The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts will present “Christmas with the Annie Moses Band” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, in W.M. Turner Auditorium as part of its 2017-18 University Series. This holiday performance of the Annie Moses Band is sponsored in part by Nacogdoches Medical Center.

New online sustainability literature course scheduled for spring at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Anthropology, Geography and Sociology will offer an online sustainability literature course in spring 2018 as part of its sustainable community development program.

ĢƵ senior receives Olds Family Outstanding Student Teacher Award


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University senior Brianna Evans of Center received the Olds Family Outstanding Student Teacher Award, which honors an exemplary student teacher from ĢƵ’s Department of Elementary Education each semester.

University field supervisor MaryAnn Bentley nominated Evans for this honor, and a committee of six ĢƵ elementary education faculty members, who reviewed teaching videos and additional materials, selected her to receive the award.

ĢƵ School of Art to host Graphic Design Portfolio Night


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will host a Graphic Design Portfolio Night from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Graphic Design Room B121 in the art building on Wilson Drive.

The event will feature three ĢƵ art alumni who will discuss their successful careers following graduation.
