Shepherd named Leader of the Year by AAFCS-TX


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Nancy Shepherd, assistant professor in Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Human Sciences, received the 2020 Leader of the Year Award from the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Texas Affiliate.

The award, which was presented online during the AAFCS-TX board meeting earlier this month due to the COVID-19 pandemic, honors family and consumer sciences professionals who have made significant contributions to the field through their involvement with AAFCS.  

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Counseling Clinic offering free teletherapy during pandemic


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Counseling Clinic at Stephen F. Austin State University is accepting new clients and temporarily waiving all fees during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Though in-person appointments aren’t possible as Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ students shelter in place in their hometowns and residents in Nacogdoches County follow stay-at-home orders, the clinic is helping clients by phone and Zoom from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Appointments on Fridays and after 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday also can be made by calling (936) 468-1041.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Although the university is not hosting any on-campus events for the foreseeable future due to concerns surrounding COVID-19, students at Stephen F. Austin State University will still be presenting their research — but this time, in a virtual format.

Each year, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ hosts two student-centered research conferences: the Undergraduate Research Conference and the Graduate Research Conference. During these events, students present their papers and posters.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – With artists and performance groups worldwide looking at all forms of technology to make sure the show goes on, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present its biennial Festival of New American Plays virtually with a slightly altered schedule.

Art education students create videos for home-schooled students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Art education students and faculty members at Stephen F. Austin State University have created a series of YouTube videos designed to provide art instruction for students who are at home instead of in the classroom as a result of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor serves community by making personal protective equipment


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Equipped with just 10 3D printers, Dr. Dan Bruton, director of engineering and professor in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Physics, Engineering and Astronomy, is providing medical professionals on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic with lifesaving personal protection equipment.

Using a design he found online and modified, Bruton is utilizing the department’s printers to manufacture face shields and distribute them to Nacogdoches Memorial Health.

Student teachers help local families while gaining experience


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — To help the many local families now home-schooling children because of the COVID-19 crisis, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ is providing live activity lessons online in the Supporters of Nacogdoches ISD Facebook group.

Student teachers in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s Community Responsiveness and Engaged Advocacy in Teacher Education program, or C.R.E.A.T.E., are presenting live 30-minute activity lessons from 2 to 3 p.m. CDT on Mondays and 10 to 11 a.m. CDT on Wednesdays via Zoom through May 6.

Sewing for a cause: Faculty, staff, community join forces to construct protective masks and gowns


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — What began a few weeks ago with Stephen F. Austin State University theatre faculty members sewing surgical mask coverings for medical professionals battling the spread of COVID-19 in Nacogdoches County has now grown to include the construction of protective gowns for health care workers.
