ĢƵ’s Madrigal Singers to perform music of love, passion


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Madrigal Singers at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Music of the Heart,” a program featuring choral music of love and passion, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

The concert will include works by Morten Lauridsen, Cyrillus Kreek, Clément Janequin, Thomas Morley, John Dowland, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, Jacques Arcadelt and others.

ĢƵ to screen ‘Everybody Street’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the documentary “Everybody Street” at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

ĢƵ to present student-directed ‘The Women of Lockerbie’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present Deborah Brevoort’s full-length play “The Women of Lockerbie” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Nov. 3, in the Downstage Theatre on the ĢƵ campus.

ĢƵ’s Friends of Music Series to present saxophone, piano faculty recital


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty member Nathan Nabb and collaborative accompanist Hyun Ji Oh will present a saxophone and piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Danceworks: ‘You’phoria production to feature ĢƵ senior choreographic pieces


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s dance program will showcase senior choreographic works during its production of Danceworks: “You”phoria, which premieres at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the HPE Complex Dance Studio, Room 201, on the university’s campus.

Additional showings are scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and 16. Admission is free for ĢƵ students. Tickets cost $5 for non-ĢƵ students and children; $8 for faculty, staff and senior citizens; and $10 for general admission. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

ĢƵ investigating unauthorized emails


Several Stephen F. Austin State University computer accounts were compromised and used maliciously to send emails with offensive content, and some grades were changed for students in the College of Sciences and Mathematics. ĢƵ officials are aware of this situation and have taken action to stop the unauthorized use of these accounts.

ĢƵ takes the security of its systems very seriously and will continue to investigate this incident until it is resolved.

ĢƵ’s theatre, music, dance programs pool talents for ‘Oklahoma!’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Collaboration among theatre, music and dance programs at Stephen F. Austin State University will bring the beloved musical “Oklahoma!” to life Nov. 6 though 10 in ĢƵ’s W.M. Turner Auditorium.

The innovative musical, based on Lynn Riggs’ 1931 play, “Green Grow the Lilacs,” is the first musical written by the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. The original Broadway production opened in 1943, and the musical earned Rodgers and Hammerstein the Pulitzer Prize in 1944.

ĢƵ Sylvans win fourth consecutive Arkansas State Lumberjack Competition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — For the fourth consecutive year, the Sylvans, Stephen F. Austin State University’s timbersports team, won the collegiate portion of the Arkansas State Lumberjack Competition held during the 35th annual Timberfest festival in Sheridan, Arkansas.

“It was by far the Sylvans’ most dominant victory during the past four years of Timberfest competitions,” said Dr. Jeremy Stovall, associate professor of forestry and faculty advisor for the Sylvans.

ĢƵ Women’s and Men’s Choirs to present ‘Mars and Venus’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The first concert for the Women’s and Men’s Choirs at Stephen F. Austin State University will feature the theme of “Mars and Venus” when the two choirs perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Dr. Tod Fish, associate director of choral activities for the ĢƵ School of Music, chose the theme “because it is the inaugural concert for the Women’s and Men’s Choirs as completely separate entities,” he said.

Price to serve as juror for biennial Refined competition, exhibition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Refined, a biennial exhibition of jewelry and metalwork hosted by the art metals program in the School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University, will open with a reception at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, in Reavley Gallery in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

Juror for Refined Art Metals/Jewelry Competition and Exhibition is Perry A. Price, executive director of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in Houston. Price will give a lecture at 5:15 p.m. prior to the reception.
