ĢƵ’s online Master of Education in educational leadership ranks in top 1 percent in nation


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s online master’s degree in educational leadership has been named one of the best programs of its kind in the nation.

ĢƵ alumnus to present lecture on intersection of health care and computer science


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Computer Science will host a lecture by Brian Warwick, Texas Children’s Hospital application architect, at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in the Math Building, Room 101.

Warwick received his Bachelor of Business Administration from ĢƵ and will present “Improving Lives and Changing Healthcare with Computer Science,” giving insight into the advancements taking place in the health care industry with the help of computer science.

Cole Art Center to exhibit ‘Kymia Nawabi: Not for Long, My Forlorn’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University and its art galleries will present an exhibition of works by artist Kymia Nawabi Oct. 25 through Dec. 30 in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

ĢƵ’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, Lumberjack Cultural Association to host annual Tunnel of Oppression


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Lumberjack Cultural Association and the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Stephen F. Austin State University will offer the ĢƵ and Nacogdoches communities an opportunity to attend the Tunnel of Oppression interactive museum, which spotlights different forms of oppression through theater and multimedia presentations.

ĢƵ Braille and Cane Club celebrates White Cane Safety Day with parade


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — With canes and signs in hand, members of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Braille and Cane Club held a parade recently on the university’s campus to celebrate White Cane Safety Day.

This national day of recognition is known as both White Cane Safety Day and Blind Americans Equality Day. It is annually celebrated in the U.S. on Oct. 15 to honor the contributions Americans who are blind or visually impaired make to the nation.

Cole Art Center to host NEA Big Read Nacogdoches contest reception


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will host a reception for works submitted to the NEA Big Read Nacogdoches’ “A Novel Response” contest sponsored by the Nacogdoches Public Library. The reception is at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25.

The NEA Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. This program seeks to broaden understanding of the world and its communities, and of oneself, through the joy of sharing a good book.

ĢƵ music series features Fehlauer’s ‘Carnival!’ recital program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Pianist Janice Fehlauer will present her “Carnival!” recital program in a guest performance at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

The recital is a feature of the ĢƵ Friends of Music Concert Series, and the program is “a celebration of carnival traditions all over the world,” Fehlauer said.

SYBARITE5 to perform Lias’ ‘Electric Blue Sand’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The exciting string quintet SYBARITE5 will perform the newly composed “Electric Blue Sand,” written by Stephen Lias, professor of composition in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music, when the ensemble performs at ĢƵ in the College of Fine Arts’ University Series.

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in W.M. Turner Auditorium and is sponsored in part by Cataract, Glaucoma, Cornea & Retina Consultants of East Texas/Benchmark Optical/Medical Arts Surgery Center.
