Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Agriculture receives grant


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Agriculture received a $3,000 student recruiting grant from the U.S. Poultry Foundation during the 2018 International Poultry Expo held in Atlanta, Georgia.

Hristov, Hu to present violin, piano guest recital at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Guest artists Miraslov Hristov and Chih-Long Hu will present a violin and piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, in Cole Concert Hall at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The performance is part of the ĢƵ Friends of Music Concert Series and will showcase some of the great standard chamber works for violin and piano, including pieces from the Classical, Romantic, and 20th century periods, according to Jennifer Dalmas, associate professor of violin and viola in the ĢƵ School of Music.

ĢƵ screening: ‘Cuba and the Cameraman’ shows country’s journey since 1970s


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the documentary “Cuba and the Cameraman” at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Behind the scenes of ‘Sweat’: Faculty, students commit long hours toward play’s success


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Working late night and weekend hours is predictable for theatre students for several weeks weeks leading up to presenting a play.

But the tiring work is also rewarding for students in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre, especially when presenting a play like Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage’s “Sweat.”

ĢƵ community nutrition students to lead Cooking Matters program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Representatives from the East Texas Food Bank in Tyler recently visited Stephen F. Austin State University to kick off a six-week Cooking Matters program in Nacogdoches.

This is the fourth year ĢƵ’s School of Human Sciences has partnered with the food bank to provide this informative and interactive program to the community. Justin Pelham, food, nutrition and dietetics clinical instructor at ĢƵ, is using this program as a class project to provide an opportunity for students to showcase their skills in a real-world setting.

ĢƵ College of Fine Arts’ Dean’s Circle celebrates 10 years


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Dean’s Circle at Stephen F. Austin State University is celebrating a milestone this year, marking a decade of recognizing the accomplishments of students within the ĢƵ College of Fine Arts.

Established by Dr. A.C. “Buddy” Himes when he arrived at ĢƵ as dean of the College of Fine Arts, the Dean’s Circle is an external support organization of community members founded in 2008 and “dedicated, in part, to nurturing potential young artists within the College of Fine Arts,” according to Himes.

ĢƵ to host events in recognition of Sexual Violence Awareness Month


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Coordinated Community Response Team will host a number of free educational seminars and events beginning at 6 p.m. every Tuesday in October in recognition of Sexual Violence Awareness Month.

The events, held in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, will cover a range of topics, including bystander intervention and rape prevention, as well as a screening and discussion of “The Hunting Ground,” an award-winning documentary examining the incidence of sexual assault on college campuses.   

ĢƵ’s Guenther, Petti to perform ‘Poems and Dragons’ program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Christina Guenther and Ron Petti, faculty members in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music, will present the recital “Poems and Dragons” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus as a feature of the ĢƵ Friends of Music Concert Series.

Guenther, professor of flute, and Petti, professor and director of accompanying at ĢƵ, will present a program of music by Charles Griffes, Jennifer Higdon, Eric Ewazen and Howard Buss – all American composers.

Stone Fort Museum to host two maker workshops


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Stone Fort Museum will host two maker workshops in October as part of the Nacogdoches Public Library’s Big Read campaign.

The workshops blend the history of everyday carry, on display in the museum’s current “Pocket, Purse and Pack: Digging into Every Day Carry” exhibit that will run through May 2019, with the everyday carry of the post-apocalyptic future envisioned in Emily St. John Mandel’s novel, “Station Eleven.”
