The Reduced Shakespeare Company to perform in ĢƵ’s University Series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University will open its 2018-19 University Series with a hilarious performance of the Reduced Shakespeare Company in “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) [revised].”

This riotous romp through each of the Bard’s plays is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.

ĢƵ to screen documentary ‘Unbranded’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the documentary “Unbranded” at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

ĢƵ art faculty exhibition to feature works of Anguiano


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University’s annual School of Art Faculty Exhibition will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Each year, the faculty exhibition features a wide variety of artworks in ceramics, sculpture, photography, painting, prints, metals and mixed media, according to John Handley, director of ĢƵ art galleries.

“The show represents the continued trajectory of the artists’ work and demonstrates their unique styles and mediums,” he said.

Kambli’s digital photography exhibited on ĢƵ campus


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – An exhibition of digital photography by Priya Kambli is on display in Griffith Gallery on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus through Nov. 8.

“Priya Kambli: Color Falls Down” expresses “the notion of transience and split cultural identity caused by the act of migration,” Kambli said, explaining that the exhibition serves to “re-contextualize and alter my family snapshots … to reveal the correlations between generations, cultures and memory.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s mathematics education program has been ranked among the best in the nation in multiple categories, according to College Choice.

A website that rates accredited public and private institutions based on institutional reputation, graduation rates, selectivity and faculty resources, College Choice ranked the program fourth in most affordable and 12th in best online.

Free speech therapy available for people with Parkinson’s disease


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stanley Center for Speech and Language Disorders at Stephen F. Austin State University will begin offering free speech therapy to people with Parkinson’s disease Sept. 4 through a two-part grant-funded program with the Parkinson Voice Project: Speak out! and Loud Crowd.

Researchers receive Texas Parks and Wildlife grant devoted to wildlife conservation

Triumph after trauma: ĢƵ graduate student receives diploma after car accident delays graduation


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Just one year and a day after the traumatic car accident that resulted in the amputation of Marissa Rotenberry’s right arm, she recently walked the stage at Johnson Coliseum and received her diploma for a master’s in statistics.

During her extended hospitalization following the accident, she had a singular focus pushing her through recovery – finishing her degree.

“It was very traumatic, but it didn’t change me,” Rotenberry said, “and it didn’t have to change my goals.”

Students investigate science through ĢƵ’s Little STEM Jacks


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Nacogdoches resident Kayla Handy was one of 65 participants in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Little STEM Jacks camp who got a closer look at a bearded dragon.

Through the program, students ages 7 to 11 participated in three days of immersive scientific discovery, learning about wound care, robotics and ecology.

The week concluded with the live-animal presentation by Wildlife on the Move, led by ĢƵ alumnus K.C. Rudy.

ĢƵ Department of Mass Communication Completes Upgrades to TV Station


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Mass Communication recently completed significant facility upgrades to its television station, ĢƵ-TV2. The station airs on Suddenlink’s Channel 2 in Nacogdoches and surrounding East Texas areas.

The TV station serves as a laboratory and classroom for students seeking a degree in broadcasting. Supporting the academic mission of the department, ĢƵ’s Board of Regents and administration allocated $275,000 for the project, which included upgrades to both the broadcast signal and on-campus studio.
