Nacogdoches Photographic Association to open annual summer show
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Nacogdoches Photographic Association will open its 2018 gallery show with a reception at 6 p.m. Friday, July 27, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.
Theme for the photo show is “Doors, Windows and Gates,” and juror is John Handley, director of art galleries at Stephen F. Austin State University.
ĢƵ’s Rusche College of Business launches online mentoring program, expands Lumberjack network

Austin State University Rusche College of Business students have access to hundreds of professional mentors and contacts through the Lumberjack Professional Network. Through the recent purchase of the Graduway software platform, the network now has a social media home providing valuable new networking opportunities, said Dr. Tim Bisping, dean of the Rusche College of Business.
Pilot program deepens teacher preparation experiences for ĢƵ students
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Through a new pilot program, Stephen F. Austin State University is going back to its roots as a teachers college in an effort to deepen students’ teacher preparation experiences.
The community responsiveness and engaged advocacy in teacher education or C.R.E.A.T.E. program is designed to provide a meaningful connection among ĢƵ students who are teacher candidates, the community, school districts, and students and their families.
ĢƵ to offer new certificate in aging studies
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Society is aging and, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the nation’s population of those who are 65 years old and older will nearly double in the next 20 years. To help prepare for this population shift, Stephen F. Austin State University will offer a certificate in aging studies and become the only university in Northeast Texas to provide this option.
Watercolor East Texas show celebrates 34 years
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The 34th Watercolor East Texas juried exhibition will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 28, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.
This year’s juror is Texas artist Bev Boren, who is a signature member of Outdoor Painters Society and Southwestern Watercolor Society. She is also a member of the Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society and American Watercolor Society.
Her work is primarily the result of her “need to paint,” she said.

Austin State University Early Childhood Laboratory has been recognized as one of the top programs in the nation by earning accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children — the world’s largest organization working on behalf of young children.
NAEYC Accreditation is a rigorous and transformative quality-improvement system that uses a set of 10 research-based standards to collaborate with early education programs to recognize and drive quality improvement in high-quality early learning environments.
Free program offered in collaboration with ĢƵ to benefit area mathematics teachers
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A free grant-funded program for area teachers of fifth through 10th grade mathematics can help them strengthen their current skills and learn new ones.
The two-year Advancing Inquiry in Middle Mathematics for Rural East Texas program will be taught by Stephen F. Austin State University Assistant Professors Drs. Jim Ewing and Mark Montgomery from the James I. Perkins College of Education’s Department of Elementary Education.
ĢƵ faculty members visit collaborating forestry science institute in China
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Faculty members within Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture spent a week in June touring China’s Jilin province as guests of the Jilin Provincial Academy of Forestry Science.
Registration underway for Junior Jacks theatre day camp
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Registration is still open for Junior Jacks Theatre Camp at Stephen F. Austin State University. The popular two-week School of Theatre camp is designed for children entering third through ninth grades. This year’s camp is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 6, through Saturday, Aug. 18. Registration deadline is July 27.
