ĢƵ School of Theatre to present Pulitzer Prize-winning “Sweat”


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A play that speaks to working class Americans with real-life issues opens the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre’s Mainstage Series this fall.

Lynn Nottage’s “Sweat” won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play opens at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, for a five-night run at ĢƵ in what will be the play’s Texas premiere.

Using a backdrop of industry job cuts, downsizing and poverty, “Sweat” gives working class people a voice, according to Cleo House Jr., director of the ĢƵ School of Theatre and of the play.

ĢƵ theatre students to present ‘Seascape with Sharks and Dancer’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Playwright Don Nigro’s “Seascape with Sharks and Dancer” will open the fall semester of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre’s student-directed plays.

Directed by Center senior Avery Tindol, the full-length play will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, in the Downstage Theatre on the ĢƵ campus.

ĢƵ music faculty to present Pi Kappa Lambda scholarship concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Faculty members of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will be the featured performers during the annual Pi Kappa Lambda Music Faculty Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

The concert showcases the talents of the diverse School of Music performing faculty, according to Dr. Jamie Weaver, associate professor of music history at ĢƵ and president of Pi Kappa Lambda honors society. Proceeds from the concert fund scholarships for deserving ĢƵ music majors selected by the honors society.

ĢƵ College of Liberal and Applied Arts announces recipient of Research Apprenticeship Program scholarship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s College of Liberal and Applied Arts has announced the recipient of the fall 2018 Research Apprenticeship Program scholarship. The scholarship is awarded each semester to an undergraduate student who completes a substantial research or collaborative project with a faculty member.

ĢƵ to celebrate 95-year history


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University will celebrate its 95-year history at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Plaza. The event will pay homage to a tradition that dates all the way back to ĢƵ's opening day – birthday cake – along with a newer tradition: purple ice cream.

ĢƵ’s Office of Multicultural Affairs to host Noche de Gala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs is hosting Noche de Gala to celebrate Hispanic-Latinx Heritage Month at 7 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Twilight Ballroom in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the ĢƵ campus.

Keynote speaker Zahira Kelly, an African-Latina writer, artist, international speaker and award-winning sociocultural critic, will discuss her experiences as an African-Latinx woman and address current issues within the Latinx community.

ĢƵ and HCC to host open house for interior design partnership


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University and Houston Community College will kick off the semester and their interior design partnership with an open house showcasing HCC’s Central campus facilities from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19 in the Learning Hub Building, Room 100, on the HCC Central campus.

Students, faculty, staff, interior design alumni and community members are invited to attend the free event.

Sally Ann Swearingen, ĢƵ associate professor of interior design, said the event is a celebration.

ĢƵ Gardens to host fall plant sale


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host its annual Fabulous Fall Festival Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. in historic Nacogdoches.

ĢƵ’s Rusche College of Business to connect students with corporate partners through new initiative


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A new initiative involving Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business and corporate leaders will help support student success and provide a link between the academic and corporate worlds.

Through this new launching partnerships program, corporate partners can have a consistent and lasting impact on the Rusche College of Business’ students, programs and facilities.
