ĢƵ senior choreography students to perform during Danceworks


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s dance program will showcase senior choreographic works during its production of “Danceworks: Ethos” at 7 p.m. April 30 in the HPE Complex Dance Studio, Room 201, on the university’s campus.

Additional showings are scheduled for 7 p.m. May 1, and 3 p.m. May 2. Eight choreographic works will be performed by four seniors and four independent study dance students preparing for their senior year.

ĢƵ: College of Fine Arts events canceled


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – In response to the actions taken by Stephen F. Austin State University to restrict the possible spread of COVID-19, the College of Fine Arts has canceled all art, music and theatre events through April 5, and tickets already purchased for events scheduled during that time period can be refunded.

ĢƵ to extend Spring Break, prepares to move online


Stephen F. Austin State University’s Spring Break will be extended by two days to provide time for ĢƵ faculty members to move classes to an online or other distance-education format, until at least April 6.

Kambli exhibition to close with artist’s lecture, reception


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The exhibition “Priya Kambli: Color Falls Down” will close Thursday, Nov. 8, on the Stephen F. Austin State University with an artist’s lecture and a reception.

Kambli will discuss her digital photography at 4:30 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall in the Wright Music Building on the ĢƵ campus. Following the lecture, a closing reception with the artist will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Griffith Gallery where her work has been displayed since the beginning of the fall semester.

ĢƵ planetarium to open to the public


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University’s planetarium in the Cole STEM Building will open Nov. 3, taking visitors on immersive journeys of scientific discovery. Seating 119, the planetarium provides a unique learning space for all ages, offering more than 20 new programs, covering astronomy, biology, chemistry, climate science, Earth science, engineering, geology and space science.

Westbrook named acting president of ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents has appointed Dr. Steve Westbrook as acting president of the university.

In accordance with university policy, regents are authorized to name an acting president to handle administrative matters of the university when the president is unable to fulfill his duties.  

ĢƵ President Baker Pattillo is ill and is undergoing medical assessment, according to Brigettee Henderson, chair of the board of regents.

ĢƵ’s Cello Club to present concert dedicated to peace


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Cello Club at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a concert dedicated to peace at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus as part of the Friends of Music Concert Series.

The concert’s theme of peace commemorates 100 years since the armistice that ended World War I, according to Dr. Evgeni Raychev, instructor of cello in the ĢƵ School of Music.

ĢƵ Board of Regents approves faculty and staff appointments


Stephen F. Austin State University’s Board of Regents approved various leadership changes during its Monday quarterly meeting.

Dr. Mark Sanders, professor, was appointed associate dean of the College of Liberal and Applied Arts. Sanders has been a part of the ĢƵ faculty since 2008, serving in various roles such as department chair and English professor. He has more than 40 years of experience in education at the collegiate and secondary education levels.

ĢƵ regents launch historic building campaign


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Members of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Board of Regents acknowledged the institution’s 95th anniversary by approving the launch of one of the largest building initiatives in ĢƵ’s history. Construction projects approved include a welcome and student support center, expansion of buildings utilized by the College of Fine Arts, construction and renovation of student residential and dining facilities, and a basketball practice facility.
