ĢƵ to host GIS and GPS user group meeting


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture will host an East Texas GIS and GPS user group meeting beginning at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 2, in Room 117 of the Forestry Building.

ĢƵ Gardens to host food fermentation workshop


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Discover the benefits of fermented foods and how to create them with a workshop hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens and led by Dr. Darla O’Dwyer, ĢƵ associate professor of human sciences, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Brundrett Conservation Education Building.

Participants will learn the health benefits of fermented foods and the scientific background behind the proper technique of anaerobic fermentation.

ĢƵ psychology graduate student receives research grant


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University psychology graduate student Neusha Khaleghi received a $1,500 grant from Psi Chi, the international honors society in psychology, to help fund her graduate research project, “Weight-based Stigma, Self-efficacy of Dietary Control and Cortisol Levels in College Women.”

Special lecture at ĢƵ to feature director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture and the ĢƵ Division of Environmental Science will host a public lecture beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St., in Nacogdoches.

Heidi Grether, director of the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, will present “Perspectives on Environmental Protection and Regulation, Day-to-Day and in Crisis.”

Production of ĢƵ Repertory Dance Company in Concert scheduled for Jan. 25, 26


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s dance program will showcase the ĢƵ Repertory Dance Company in Concert, which premieres at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, in Turner Auditorium on the university’s campus.

An additional showing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26. Tickets cost $8 for students, $12 for faculty and staff members and senior citizens, and $15 for general admission and can be purchased at the door. All proceeds benefit the ĢƵ dance program.

ĢƵ’s University Series remembers loss of King with ‘The Mountaintop’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – In 2018, America and the world will mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The College of Fine Arts and the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Stephen F. Austin State University, along with L.A. Theatre Works, will anticipate the anniversary with a touring presentation of the internationally acclaimed play “The Mountaintop,” written by Katori Hall and directed by multiple award-winner Shirley Jo Finney.

ĢƵ theatre students, faculty to participate in national Ghostlight Project


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University will join hundreds of other theatre communities across the nation – from Broadway to regional theaters to high schools and colleges and community theaters – on Friday, Jan. 19, by participating in The Ghostlight Project.

Mixed media featured in ‘Junko Chodos: Can We Hear Our Own Voice?’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will present an exhibition of works by contemporary artist Junko Chodos showing Jan. 24 through March 25 in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

“Junko Chodos: Can We Hear Our Own Voice?” features mixed media pieces and drawings. The artist considers herself “a hypermodern mystic,” and she describes much of her work as “centripetal” in nature.

Tubman’s bravery showcased in ĢƵ’s Children’s Performing Arts Series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Children’s Performing Arts Series at Stephen F. Austin State University will celebrate Black History Month Thursday, Feb. 1, with performances of the Virginia Repertory Theatre’s “Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad.”

This stirring drama with music is a classic tribute to the great American who freed herself and hundreds of her people from the bonds of slavery, according to Diane Peterson, ĢƵ Fine Arts Box Office manager and director of the College of Fine Art’s children’s series.

Local fans look forward to Chanticleer performance


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Brisk ticket sales to the University Series performance of the Grammy Award-winning men’s chorus Chanticleer at Stephen F. Austin State University may be reflective of the wide fan base the popular a cappella choir enjoys worldwide.

The ĢƵ College of Fine Arts will present Chanticleer performing the program “Heart of a Soldier” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.
