School of Human Sciences at ĢƵ participates in annual ‘Chairished’ Blessings fundraiser


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — More than 100 Stephen F. Austin State University students enrolled in the School of Human Sciences applied their skills during the annual “Chairished” Blessings fundraiser held recently at the Nacogdoches Exposition and Civic Center.

Interior design, merchandising and hospitality students were among the participants during this year’s event and played active roles in making it a success.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Nacogdoches County’s Opportunity for a Better Learning Experience banquet scheduled for March 30 at Stephen F. Austin State University has been canceled due to concerns about the coronavirus, or COVID-19, pandemic.

The Leaders of Tomorrow, or LOT Crew, day of service on April 11 at Brooks-Quinn-Jones Elementary, public safety field trip on April 14 at the C.L. Simon Recreation Center and convocation on April 28 at ĢƵ also have been canceled.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University will be well represented at the 2018 Texas Music Educators Association annual clinic/convention Feb. 14 through 17 in San Antonio.

The ĢƵ Wind Ensemble, directed by Fred J. Allen, director of bands at ĢƵ, and the Orchestra of the Pines, directed by Dr. Gene H. Moon, director of orchestras, will perform before the nation’s premier music educators’ convention that historically draws more then 26,000 attendees.

ĢƵ chemistry students learn about intellectual property from Tomball lawyer


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students enrolled in a patent application course offered by Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry had the opportunity to learn about intellectual property recently from Terril Lewis, partner in Tomball-based law firm Lewis, Reese & Nesmith.

The course gives students a background in intellectual property, providing them with a competitive edge in the job market.

ĢƵ hosts first STEM Career and Internship Expo


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students filled the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom Thursday, networking with potential employers during Stephen F. Austin State University’s first STEM Career and Internship Expo.

Representatives from Tyson, the Peace Corps, Lockheed Martin and more than a dozen other employers were in attendance at the event, hosted by ĢƵ’s Center for Career and Professional Development.  

ĢƵ professor launches STEM Education in the Future initiative with Association of Teacher Educators, NASA Education


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — As national president of the Association of Teacher Educators, Dr. Karen Embry-Jenlink, professor of doctoral studies in educational leadership at Stephen F. Austin State University, has appointed one of the first joint commissions between ATE and NASA Education titled STEM Education in the Future.

Guest artists Lin, Braddock to perform at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Guest artists Ching-Yi Lin and Andrew Braddock will perform music for violin and viola in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

The concert will feature primarily duets for violin and viola, as well as a solo work for violin, according to Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, professor of violin in the ĢƵ School of Music.

North Texas Euphonium Quartet to perform at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The North Texas Euphonium Quartet will fulfill its goal of bringing new euphonium quartet music to the spotlight when the ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.
