Percussion recital rescheduled for Saturday


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A faculty recital by Dr. Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies at Stephen F. Austin State University, has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus. Originally scheduled for Tuesday night, Jan. 16, Meyer’s recital was canceled because of the university’s closure due to inclement weather.

Labs help establish skill set for ĢƵ students in Department of Kinesiology and Health Science


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Faculty and staff members in Stephen F. Austin State University's Department of Kinesiology and Health Science have taken the concept of student-directed learning and applied skills to heart.

Through the use of various state-of-the-art labs, hundreds of ĢƵ students have the opportunity to conduct research by using high-tech equipment, practice concepts learned in class in a lab setting and train with equipment they will use in their future professions.

ĢƵ Gardens' Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature Moody Gardens director


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. Danny Carson, director of gardens at Moody Gardens in Galveston, will present "Behind the Scenes at Moody Gardens: Why 1,100 Employees is Never Enough."

ĢƵ Gardens to host grafting workshop


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Make plans to join Dr. David Creech, ĢƵ professor emeritus of agriculture, as he discusses the plant propagation techniques of budding and grafting from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Brundrett Conservation Education Building located at 2900 Raguet St.  

Alumni Association names Mr. and Miss ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association announced Lawrence ‘Mac’ Moore of Heath and Stephanie Gray of Waxahachie have been selected as recipients of the 2018 Mr. and Miss ĢƵ Award.

The Mr. ĢƵ Award was established in honor of the late Stan McKewen, a 1934 ĢƵ graduate. The Arnodean Covin Miss ĢƵ Award honors the late alumna who was named Miss ĢƵ in 1940, 1941 and 1942.

Duo Karudan to perform works by Canadian composers


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Friends of Music Concert Series at Stephen F. Austin State University will present Duo Karudan in a faculty-guest recital at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Duo Karudan includes Christopher Ayer, professor of clarinet in the ĢƵ School of Music, and his wife, Kae Hosoda-Ayer, who is associate professor of piano at Baylor University.

ĢƵ Gardens to prepare volunteers for Garden Guides


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — ĢƵ Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host an orientation and training for volunteers from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 6, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center at 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches.

The training will prepare volunteers to present environmental education programs to area school children throughout the year. These programs introduce students to the natural world through hands-on activities.

ĢƵ’s Meyer to perform percussion works by Deane, Bobo, Viñao


Dr. Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies at Stephen F. Austin State University, will perform works by Christopher Deane, Kevin Bobo, Alejandro Viñao and others in a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

The recital is a joint presentation of the ĢƵ College of Fine Arts and School of Music and is a feature of the Friends of Music Concert Series.

ĢƵ Gardens to host Great Backyard Bird Count


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University's ĢƵ Gardens, the Pineywoods Audubon Society and the university’s student chapter of the National Association for Interpretation are sponsoring the Great Backyard Bird Count from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 16 at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.

ĢƵ faculty chamber recital to feature ‘Zodiacal Light’ - Canceled


The Friends of Music Concert Series presentation of “Zodiacal Light,” a recital originally scheduled for Tuesday night, March 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus, has been canceled. The performers plan to reschedule at a later date.
