ĢƵ Wind Ensemble to perform ‘Legacies’ concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Wind Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the program “Legacies” in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.

According to Dr. David Campo, director of bands at ĢƵ and the Wind Ensemble, the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines legacy as “something transmitted by or received from an ancestor, predecessor or from the past.”

Juror Price selects Refined competition winners


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Artwork by Aric Verrastro of Menomonie, Wisconsin, took first place in this year’s Refined Art Metals/Jewelry Competition and Exhibition at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Refined is a biennial exhibition of jewelry and metalwork hosted by the art metals program in ĢƵ’s School of Art. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the event. Perry A. Price, executive director of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft in Houston, served as juror.

ĢƵ dance major participates in Exchange Choreography Festival


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Folding a piece of paper, Samantha Lindsey, a Stephen F. Austin State University junior, looks downward to avoid watching the two dancers in front of her as they interpret each action and bring her choreography to life.

During the summer, Lindsey participated in the Exchange Choreography Festival in Tulsa, Oklahoma — a program of curated dance performances of choreographed works, workshops and networking events designed to foster dialogue.

ĢƵ English professor premieres play at local theatre


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — “Yes, We Deliver,” a play written by Dr. Ken Untiedt, Stephen F. Austin State University professor of English, will premiere in November at the Lamp-Lite Theatre.

The play tells the story of a wealthy young man who doesn’t want to be part of his family’s “shady business.” Instead, he becomes a pizza deliverer and encounters a variety of different people while trying to figure out his place in life.

Untiedt relied on his personal experience as a pizza deliverer to write the characters and script.

ĢƵ to host Showcase Saturday for prospective students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Future college students will have the opportunity to experience a taste of campus life during a free, action-packed open house Saturday, Nov. 10, at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

Prospective students can visit with university faculty and staff, tour the campus and residence halls, and preview academic programs during the ĢƵ Showcase Saturday event.

ĢƵ Photo Club to host juried student exhibition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University Photo Club will host its first juried show of student work, the Pineywoods Photography Exhibition, Nov. 14 through Dec. 12 in Griffith Gallery on the ĢƵ campus.

Juror Priya Kambli selected work for the exhibit from more than 75 submissions sent in by students from across the ĢƵ campus. Three awards will be announced during the opening reception, which is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the gallery.

Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band concert celebrates Christmas traditions


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Wind Symphony and the Symphonic Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will celebrate Christmas traditions from both at home and abroad when the bands perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.

ĢƵ Gardens’ Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature Director Dr. David Creech


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Dr. David Creech, ĢƵ Gardens director and professor emeritus of agriculture, will present, “ĢƵ Gardens: Where Good Ideas Meet Insurmountable Obstacles.”
