Dr. Daniel Unger receives national award for forestry education


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Daniel Unger, Kenneth Nelson Distinguished Professor of spatial science within Stephen F. Austin State University's Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, was awarded the 2019 Carl Alwin Schenck Award from the Society of American Foresters during the SAF National Convention held in November in Louisville, Kentucky.

The national award recognizes individuals who display a notable and sustained record of excellence in forestry education through outstanding service to the field and the development of dynamic, personal teaching methods.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ student and student chapter recognized at national forestry conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Society of American Foresters named Stephen F. Austin State University senior Kathryn Christensen as a 2019 Diversity Scholar and recognized the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ student chapter of the SAF as one of the top three student chapters in the nation during the organization's national conference held last month in Louisville, Kentucky.

Eugene Mitchell Weatherly to offer Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ December commencement address


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Eugene Mitchell Weatherly, a 1970 graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, will offer the commencement address during the university’s graduation ceremonies Friday, Dec. 13, and Saturday, Dec. 14.

A Nacogdoches County native, Weatherly was a member of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Lumberjack Cadet Battalion and graduated as a distinguished military graduate from Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's historic first commissioning class of 1970.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Within days of stepping into the director of Auxiliary Services role at Stephen F. NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University will honor several prominent donors during the 31st annual Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Gala Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

This year’s honorees include the late Marilyn Cranford, Linda and the late Roy Bush, and Mike and Jackie Harbordt.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s Office of Multicultural Affairs accepting service projects for annual MLK Day of Service


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A newly bestowed grant from the Corporation of National and Community Service will help Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs expand outreach initiatives for its upcoming 2020 MLK Day of Service.

The CNCS is a federal agency charged with leading service and volunteering efforts across the U.S. It was tasked with serving as lead national organizer for the federally sanctioned day of service, which first began in 1983.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ students compete at advertising competition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students from Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Mass Communication, School of Art, and Department of Management and Marketing recently took part in a competition for the American Advertising Federation in Houston.

Approximately 40 students from Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ took part in the competition, joining groups from the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, the University of Houston and others to form 10 teams.
