U.S. Marine Corps trombonist to perform with Swingin’ Axes


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Gunnery Sgt. Ken Ebo, U.S. Marine Corps Jazz Orchestra director and trombonist, will join the Swingin’ Axes jazz band of Stephen F. Austin State University in a performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

The concert will also feature the Swingin’ Aces, directed by Dr. J.D. Salas, professor of tuba and euphonium at ĢƵ.

ĢƵ horticulture students to host plant fair and sale


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s horticulture program will host a plant fair and sale from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, and 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at the ĢƵ Plantery, located at 1924 Wilson Drive.

The event will feature students showcasing their fall gardening projects, plants for purchase and educational activities, as well as information regarding how to grow plants.

The plant fair is family and pet friendly, and weather permitting, will offer free s’mores Thursday evening.

ĢƵ’s Contemporary Music Ensemble to present concert using technology as instruments


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Contemporary Music Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a concert, which will include using music technology as instruments, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Music Recital Hall of the Wright Music Building on the ĢƵ campus.

Directed by Nick Lambson, a Sound Recording Technology faculty member in the ĢƵ School of Music, the Contemporary Ensemble will perform the music of Frank Zappa, Daft Punk, Snarky Puppy, Moondog and more.

Stone Fort Wind Quintet to perform music by North American composers


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stone Fort Wind Quintet at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a concert of music by North American composers at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

The quintet is comprised of ĢƵ School of Music faculty, including Christina Guenther, flute; Abby Held, oboe; Chris Ayer, clarinet; Charles Gavin, horn; and Lee Goodhew, bassoon. The performance is a feature of the Friends of Music Concert Series.

ĢƵ’s ‘Titus Andronicus’ features complex special effects


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Elaborate special effects on the big screen can really enhance a movie-going experience. Today’s audiences expect bigger and better every time. That’s exactly what theatre-goers who attend the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre’s presentation of William Shakespeare’s “Titus Andronicus” will receive – an elaborate special effects experience.

ĢƵ Gardens’ Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature commercial ornamental horticulture specialist


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Dr. Jeb Fields, assistant professor and extension specialist for commercial ornamental horticulture with the Louisiana State University AgCenter, will present “Gardening in the Deep South the Cajun Way: Observations from Plant Trials.”

ĢƵ’s Rusche College of Business unveils sculpture


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A new sculpture outside the McGee Business Building on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus is a reflection of the work being conducted within the walls of the ĢƵ – offering educational opportunities that will “launch” students into successful business careers.  
 

ĢƵ to host snake seminar


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A herpetologist who has called snakes the “coolest animals ever” will deliver a seminar about cottonmouths at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Miller Science Building, Room 137.
 
Dr. William Lutterschmidt, professor of biology at Sam Houston State University, will present “The Ecology of Evaporative Water Loss in the Northern Cottonmouth” and will speak about how this process affects snakes.
 

Student chapter of The Wildlife Society hosting raffle


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University student chapter of The Wildlife Society is hosting a fall fundraising raffle for two guided hunts.

One hunt, located in West Texas, will be for the harvest of an aoudad ram, while the second offers duck hunting in the coastal marshes of Southeast Texas. Meals and lodging are included in both hunts.

“Hunting is the main funding mechanism through which the United States funds wildlife management and conservation,” said Jake Hill, forest wildlife management sophomore and vice president of the ĢƵ chapter.

ĢƵ Percussion Ensemble to perform works by Daughtrey, Pickering, others


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –The ĢƵ Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Directed by Dr. Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies for the ĢƵ School of Music, the student ensemble will perform works by Caleb Pickering, Ney Rosauro, Lynn Glassock, Nathan Daughtrey and Casey Cangelosi.
